My wine cooler serves a dual purpose. I set peafowl eggs at least once per week. During the waiting time the eggs needs to be kept cool as heat will ruin them for hatching. My wine cooler is digital temp set ranging from 55 degrees to 80 degrees. It has 3 racks plus the bottom which gives it a capacity of about 60-70 peacock eggs.I have it set at 60 degrees to store eggs.
Also to justify buying it to wifey is to keep Asti Spumante cool for summertime festivities. We always have a bottle cool which is ready for the first big hatch-a-long because a Peachick hatching is a celebration of new life here so this is our way of celebrating once per week, sometimes more when we have hatch days.

Yes, I have been waiting for my wine celebration of hatching peachicks for 3 1/2 weeks now! :) and it just so happens that my eggs are due to hatch right when my puppies will be 8 weeks and going home... so I have crops, flights and pick ups tuesday-friday and the eggs are due to hatch thursday! AUGGGG!

I told my hubby that at least I would be too busy to mess with them... as I am prone to do on hatchings haha

I just get a quick peek every few hours between appointments and trips! NOT THE RELAXING WINE SIPPING I WAS AIMING FOR!

Frenchblackcopper so r peacocks eggs only or all eggs need to go into a wine coooler for a week b4 incubating?i just have been sitting my eggs in a egg carton n sitting edge up alternating edges up 2 xs a day for 2 days b4 incubating, does that not need to be done? Sooo much learning to incubating eggs.GOSH!

Your eggs do not have to go into a wine cooler a week before incubating. He just said he puts them in there. You want to store the eggs in a cool dry place. I keep mine in a plastic closet / cabinet in my basement as pictured below. The last picture is the eggs on the shelf inside the cabinet.

Thanks yoda...do all eggs need to be keptin a cool place?i just dont get it though bc I thought I read somewhere or was told that u must incubate eggs within 3 days of laying. Is that true or not?

Yes all eggs should be kept in a cool place. I store chicken eggs, guinea eggs, duck eggs and pea eggs in my cabinet. No it is not true. My eggs will sit in there til there is room in the incubator and I never had any issues before. I mean they don't sit there for a month but a couple weeks they will. Remember a pea hen lays an egg every other day so if she is sitting on 9 eggs then the first egg is 18 days old, 8 eggs would be 16 days old.

There is plenty of information on chicken, turkey, pheasants, peafowl etcc.. on "how long the eggs can be stored before incubation" without loosing fertility on google website. , including byc threads and United peafowl association articles. UPA recomendation is " no egg should be stored more than 10 days before incubation. ". It does not mean that the fertility will be totally lost on the 11 th day..
