Incubating peafowl

Sorry to hear that some are having problems incubating and hatching. :( I am absolutely no help when it comes to incubating . This year was only my 2nd year using an incubator, so I have to stumble through it just like so many others.

Kathy, I didn't realize you had lost any. I must not be keeping up with posts. So sorry to hear that. I know you are sick over that. I know how you feel about your animals. :hugs

The chicks lost never pipped... Still have the 8 that hatched about a week ago (4 from incubator, 4 from broody #1).

I would say let it be and watch it. The egg I dropped not once but twice was non moving and just layed there for a couple days. There was nothing I could do but watch. A couple days later and it was up and running. Chicks still have the yok inside to feed them for a day or two. Could just be the energy loss from hatching.

I offer anyone who is having troubles with quitters or weak peachicks at hatching to try a "controlled" feeding on two groups of identical peas. Meaning if you have seperate breeding pens and can do so,try feeding one group of peas a higher(24-26%) protein feed and leave the other group as is. After 3-4 days of feeding the new group the higher protein diet, mark all eggs from them that are incubated and then keep records of quitters and weak or dying peachicks between both groups. Some of my peas are fine but a few groups do get the higher protein feed and it did make a huge diffrence. On top of the higher protein feed boss as well. Meal worms are almost 50% protein but require time to start growing them and depending on your current protein level in feed, you may have to get 25% of their diet from the meal worms, which would be rather high priced unless you raise your own.

My peas are on Gamebird conditioner. My eggs hatch great under hens but not in my bator so it is definitely my fault. I saw chicks moving in shell a week ago but checking today, it looks like no movement. I am horrible at hatching these eggs. I set a bunch more under hens. They are the experts, though I hatch all other birds just fine.

one of my 3 peachicks look very lathergic... they just hatched this morning.... is there anything I can do to pep it up?
I guess this is too late of a reply but when I gave my boyfriend a peafowl egg to hatch he had to help the peachick out of the egg and it was very weak. It just lay there. So what we did is make some sugar water and you hold the peachick and dip its beak into the water. It should drink up the water. In my opinion in really helped give the peachick some energy.

How many days and how hot and how high humidity? Put my first egg in bator yesterday she has 2 in her nest but is not sitting them but she is gaurding them like a hawk lol

Ok she now has 4 eggs in her nest but not sitting them and she is laying in all 4 corners of her run so I moved them all to where she laid her first 2 but she is still not sitting them should I put them all in the bator or give her a chance to go broody this is her first year laying and she has laid 6 total so far please help!!!
