Incubating precious eggs...Hatching!

Aaaawwwwww!!!

She looks so sweet on her nest! Kathy, I'm sure you mentioned her name somewhere else, but I've plumb forgot. Which momma is this? How many different breeds do you have tucked under her right now? That first chick is certainly no Dellie!

And remember, chicks are fluffy, poo is slimy! Should be easy enough to tell the difference!

Well there I go again! Showing my ignorance big time! You'd think I could spot the difference between a Delaware, and a Light Sussex, Light Brahma, or Columbian Rock.....did I miss anyone?
lol.png
In my own defence, you have to admit, that wasn't the clearest of pictures, and I was ignorant of the fact that you have Light Sussex in your flocks!

She's a beautiful little girl regardless. And I sure hope you can fatten her up quickly once those chicks finish hatching and you can move her out of there! Sounds like now would be a good time for one of Cetawin's famous plates of Blueberry Pancakes!!!

She will get the works in the morning!

First course will include blueberry pancakes and scrambled eggs slathered in wheat germ oil.

UUmmmmm, yummmmy! The poor girl has just worried me sick, not eating much at all.

Such a sweet thing, too.

When I got out there, she just lifts herself up and lets me look, with a sweet little purring sound. However .... that broody poop about knocked me out!

Kathy congrats! What a beautiful baby...it looks blue but it is so hard to tell with the really dark ones.

Give your girl some canned Salmon...that has a lot of Omega 3's which will help her replace her tummy feathers she pulled....and also has a high protein and fat content to help with her weight. Since she is not laying right now...I would give her Salmon 3 times per week for a couple of weeks while she gets her act back together.

I suppose one could use tuna in a pinch. I'd just be concerned about how often you use it, as tuna is known to have elevated levels of mercury in it. Even pregnant women are advised against its consumption during pregnancy and subsequent breast feeding. Chickens are so much smaller than we are, so I think I'd have some serious reservations about giving tuna to them.

Well, drat. Guess it's a miracle you got three since some of the eggs were getting a bit older than was optimal. Hope one is blue. If not, I have a baby who is over a week old, too early to sex, and Smoky has her one she is sitting on.

Cetawin, well three healthy ones is better than none- Let's hope the blue is a roo, or else - I am even hoping now - maybe one or both of Cyn's will be a roo for you!

Kathy- too precious. I just LOVE babies. Mash up scrambled egg- my babies ate that from day one since Harriet is used to free ranging and disses chicken feed. The babies will eat the starter, but not as much as I think they should, so they all get a mashed up egg a day. And they have had yogurt, which everyone here loves. I actually peeled grapes and mashed those, too. Today was their first day with salmon, again mashed.
