Okay here is the scoop, I candled my eggs today. But I'm not quiet sure which ones are fertile!

I know its not a very good picture, but do you think that egg is fertile?
I will update you soon!!

this is day 5 right?? I cant tell from the pic. you may be able to see veining, but I only candle day 7.... if its a dark egg, perhaps laying it and adding several flashlights around it will light it better.... see my notes..... in this link..... and below is a paste from it.....

CAUTION: Be very careful when you handle the egg
so you don't accidentally crack it or DROP it!

Slowly & gently rotate the egg until you can see inside the egg. On Day 1 candling you will mark air cells and check for cracked or porous eggs. Lightly mark the air cell with a pencil. It’s not a good idea to light the embryo a long time especially if the light gets hot, you will kill the embryo. On Day 1 candle you will NOT see much inside the egg but you may have a glimpse of yolk moving as you gently rotate lightly colored eggs.

CANDLE EGGS
DAY 7

When you Candle on day 7 there should be a red dot about the size of a match head with faint blood vessels surrounding it and you may see the embryo move. This is an exciting time to candle! Eggs without any indications of fertility should be re-candled at 10 days and 14 days. If your not sure and it doesn’t smell leave it! If your egg is colored or a brown egg, it is harder to see through the shell, you may want to wait a few days and try again. Or find a better candler. If an egg has not been fertilized, it will be completely translucent inside the shell and you won't be able to see anything but perhaps yolk.

It IS ALIVE!!!! Video below day 7 Candle

I could see a big blob in three of them (Yolk, I think), and in the others I saw spots and stuff
By the way, its the eighth day today!

Up date?? How are they looking. IF there dark eggs some times the best you can do is see the air cell get bigger , I dont think the air cell progresses like normal if the eggs arnt growing babies ?? Another idea is to get a small box that you can fit a light fixture and bulb in cover the whole inside of the box with aluminum foil to get maximum light and cut a small quarter sized hole into it and make sure that the light is a cool bulb not a hot one . comepletly enclose it in the box some how or drape dark layers of cloth over the end you put the light in thru and try that ? I know I am not good at discribeing things but hopefully that gave you a gist of an idea.

Set up our Brinsea Mini-Advanced on 1/14, so you're a week ahead of me. Yes, the waiting is the hardest part!

Have 7 Black Java chicks in the 'bator right now from our laying flock of Java's. We had a quick weather warm-up so I knew the eggs wouldn't be frozen by the time I collected them (temps were in the 50's not the 20's as usual!)

I'd be happy to compare notes.

Thus far, the Brinsea has been a breeze to set up! We had to figure out how to turn off the 'alarm' when the unit rotated - didn't want to keep our (human) kids up at night listening for the beep every 45min! And I added a bit on the turn angle, as our eggs seemed larger than the ones in the diagrams in the instruction booklet. (Was between a 6 and an 8, so I picked 7 turn angle).

*****tapping fingers****** it's going to be a LONG month!
