Tattoo prefix consisting of 3-4 letters and/or a letter/number combination that you will be putting in the goats right ear, example, RNE for Roc N Ewe or KH1 for Kay Hollaway 1. You will be the only one allowed to use this tattoo for your goats with NDGA. Again you will need three (3) choices. Some also call it a herd tattoo. It may be the Initials of your Herd Name or your personal initials with/without a number. So make sure it is easy to read.
There are only 4 spaces for a herd tattoo.
If you are going to register your goats with another registry make sure the Herd Name and Tattoo will work with them as well.
Only one tattoo in the ear will be acceptable by any of the registries.
The left ear will be tattooed with the letter for the year they were born, IE. 2015 is "F" plus whatever number you assign to that kid.
Most breeders will number the kids as they are born during the kidding season. Example: Susie was the first to kid and she had 4 kids numbered F1,F2,F3,F4. Sunshine kidded next with 2 kids so her kids would be F5,F6, etc.. The numbers are not gender specific, so they can be used for either doe or buck kids.
You may also use a microchip as identification but make sure you purchase a reader as well. Often times a chip will stop working and you will need to check all goats you will be showing before you leave home and at the show before you enter the ring. It is
What breed are they?
Speaking of dairy goats... My Oberhasli Doe kidded on saturday, Very drama free, and sudden. I went to check her and then in the 3 hours between me checking she had a cute doeling, A single kid. The baby (named Rory) Decided that nursing from both sides of the udder is for weenies, so We are milking the side of the udder that she doesn't like, then trying to get her to nurse from it a little. Last night we milked about 3/4 of the milk, and we got about 1 liter, which is what she was giving with twice a day milkings and both sides, it was her first year milking. Her mom gives about 1 gallon a DAY... this will be interesting
