It has hatched before I got 8 chicks out of 24 eggs but it was a first time and I had screwed it up so it was my fault

I wouldn't stress it, always learn from what you done. We don't all always get great hatches.
Just wondering if you disinfected the bator between batches. Especially the Styrofoam ones.
I make a 10% bleach solution avoiding the electrical parts as much as possible and then set in the sun
The sunset radiation combined with the bleach means almost nothing detrimental lives in your bator.
If you can't set in the sun you can just fire up the bator and it will dry it out nicely. Just be sure the various electrical connections aren't soaked before ya plug it in![]()
