Well that was a interesting and informative read back from the past 2 days.

First thank you to all that have attempted to help the new people that have joined recently. There is a wealth of knowledge here and I'm grateful that yall are so generous in sharing.

Happy Father's day to all those that it applies. And thank you to all the women who put up with us father's.

I made it to Texas after some airport confusion and will be here for the next 2 weeks or so. Call me crazy but I decided to spend the last 30 minutes or so before I left this morning with the week old chicks. Rest of the family was sleeping and I wanted to make sure all was good before I turned them over to the wife and kids.

I have some concerns and would like some input. Pictures are below. One of the giant cochin chicks seems to have overly large wings. They are more feathered out than the rest and seem bigger at the same time. It was actually one of the smaller chicks that hatched but has seemed fine until now. I might just be freaking out for no reason but decided it was worth asking. It appears as though in the picture they are cold bUT they just huddled up trying to hide from me.

Food is Purina flock raiser non medicated (what's the advantages of medicated) I swapped over to the flock raiser back a few months ago due to being able to feed it to all ages but stuck with non medicated.

Umm let's see I think that should sum it up. Please ask any questions and I will attempt to answer them. Bear in mind I'm in TX and they are in NC so more pictures will take time but not impossible. The one I'm worried about is the black body wit white face.

I prefer the non-medicated as well. But this is a very debatable item so each person to their own on this one.

Well, it is 11:45 and I am now going to go outside and get the end tables for the living room. :D
Apparently, I am not ready to give up on redecorating the living room for the night! :lau

I had considered the overheating issue as well. They stay out like that all the time. Even to the point that as others are running around going crazy if they get bumped they come right back out. Also with overheating it seems as though others would be doing it also?? Just started reading about angel wing but thought that was more of a concern with ducks. And yes there is definently a time warp. Wife says my chicken chores take twice as long when I have new chicks. I tried explaining there are more mouths to feed and she has to go and catch me sitting on a stool watching them lol. We did however swap places while I finished feeding. She's coming around. These next 2 weeks will either make her or break her. Coincidental timing that I have week old chicks for her to watch?? I just hope my plan works the way I envisioned it.
Chickens can have angel wings as well as ducks, though not as common. There are lots of articles/how-to's to fix angel wing with vet tape. Needs to be treated as soon as possible...

Sounds like the perfect plan. Next thing you know, she'll be making googly sounds and calling them babies! Gotta love it when a plan comes together!!!

I'd pay good money to see this. Especially since rattlesnakes are live bearers. This is one broody that won't give up eggs too easily.

Aha so it doesn't have antibiotics? Seems like I remembered reading that's why people didn't use it. As was mentioned previously I'm sure there are knowledgeable people on both sides of the fence that have strong views as to which way is right. Would there be any concern other than increased price to feed it long term?
Nope... no antibiotics. The active ingredient is Amprolium. Here's some info on the drug. #5 is the main reason I use it...

  1. Amprolium is a drug that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
  2. Amprolium IS NOT an antibiotic
  3. Amprolium has no withdrawal period, either in birds raised for meat or those used for egg production.
  4. Amprolium works by limiting uptake of thiamine (vitamin B1) by the coccidia parasite, which needs the thiamine to actively multiply.
  5. Amprolium allows some of the coccidia to remain in the system, stimulating creation of antibodies to develop against the disease.

@Pensmaster

Thank you for the inputs thus far. It's been a busy day of traveling and class starts early so it's time for me to get some shut eye. Hopefully I will have some more feedback to read up on tommorow. Good night all.

@MotorcycleChick

Enjoy your redecorating. I'm gonna miss yalls Dailey chatter the next couple of weeks but look forward to the readbacks.

@DwayneNLiz
Congrats on three weeks in a row. Almost half way and your killing it. "For those that aren't aware that's a good thing in this context"
