Persistence pays off. Just have to keep the upper hand, and it'll sink in sooner or later. If you don't believe it, just ask my wife...
But ya, persistance worked with all the others, so.... I'll keep workin!
My 6 RSL's were like that all Fall....molt. They're finally starting to pick up now. I've got one that lays a really dark egg; a lot darker, consistantly, than the others. Come Spring, I'll probably gather up several of the dark ones & toss them in the cooker.

I may have to add some "spice" to the flock, but one thing at a time. Gonna keep a few of the barred rocks to add to the laying pen, then I'm going to move into phase 2 of my (top secret) long-term plan, and perhaps then I can consider something a little more colorful.
If I get more Brabanter eggs tomorrow they're going in the bator too. I did find my hen and she's fine but it really scared me that I might lose out on her genetics. I'm up to 5 eggs in there now.
Humidity is 29% and drying out. It will probably get to 25% at its low and 30% at its high (based on previous tests). The turner is fine. I actually use the timer as a switch because I'm around. Temp is hovering between 99.5 and 100.5 with the fan and light working well. Even if these eggs are fertile, I will have the challenge of this MacGyverbator and whether or not it will work for hatching. With some water I could get it to 60% humidity during tests, but didn't test it all the way to 70%. I will candle on Tuesday or Wednesday and let you know.
