Yea that's another easy solution. At the time I didn't have any hardware cloth but I had a cinder block sitting close by. Gotta get a bigger trap if your raccoons can't fit all the way in.
I think the trap is big enough, the raccoons are smarter than the trap. I think the next size trap is for coyotes.

What's funny is when a chicken which, as a species, isn't the brightest bulb on the tree to start with, gets caught in a live trap. Had that happen once last year. Hen just sat there quietly 'til I happened to notice her. Since then, I make sure it's not set if the chickens are loose.
I've caught chickens, squirrels, cats, opossums, birds and raccoons.

I'm ok with them eatin Japanese beetles lol
Same here. I wish they'd find more of them.

X2. I don't free range anymore but when I did they would make a bee line to the trap.

Took awhile too brew this am. The editor wouldn't allow pictures

Make setting the trap a routine. Mines nerver not set. I have however been forgetful about seeing if anything is in it the first trip by. That could have dangerous consequences on my part. Going back its readily seen.

Fresh cup in a few hours.
Okay!

I had a big ole mean he coon move the trap about 10' until he got it stuck in some bushes earlier this year.
CC Night need a bigger trap, not you.
I have yet to catch on of my birds so it stays set all day. I did catch a chicadee in a mouse trap once.
But but but... I never denied he did. I am just saying I have a good sized trap. And obviously he does too.

I think so too on the next size up being for coyotes.

Skunks are by far the most caught here. Raccoons about 10. With the last 4 in the past three weeks. Possum ground squirrels chickens and cats. Traps sat, set empty for a least 2 months. Bait was really old. Since then I've freshened it up each time.

Quote: Maybe I should just isolate her with the eggs I want her to hatch.

I have pips happening in eggs due today or tomorrow. I forgot which day I set but it was for the Zodiac Hatch-a-Long.

There are 11 eggs and a couple may have quit a few days ago. There are 3 that I dipped in ascorbic acid on set day and again on day 16.
I cooled them all for about 30 minutes once.
Congratulations!

Quote: h c to long. She switched egg cl I want her to hatchicks, just don't want her sitting on eggsutches after a week. Is there a time limit on how long I should let her sit?

Quote: Yes, moles eat the grubs in the ground. If you are ok with that let the mole be, otherwise treat yard for grubs and the mole would move to somewhere with a better food source.
I'd think that would depend on how much you need/want egg production from that particular hen. My last broody was a couple weeks getting back to laying after she hatched her single chick.
Hi Whites! I don't need egg production from her. So hopefully she'll hatch some chicks to raise.

Quote: Hi Pensmaster! I never think about feeding the eggs back.

Respect!

Howdy Mike, & all of you. I hope you all have a super day, & accomplish all you set out to do. I want to wrap h/w cloth around the lower sides of the dog crate that 4 of my youngsters sleep in 'cause the hens won't let them in the coop.

We have a place in town where building contractors donate materials left over from jobs, to be sold at reduced prices for charity (Habitat for Humanity?). Might find a few windows for my building.

The older eggs are actually still quite good for feed back. Surprisingly. Especially if there duds. I haven't gone past two weeks with this though.

Could you incubate the ones she abandoned?

Well I'd better get going. Mornings meeting is coming right up and I've an hours drive.
