While not a big pie fan, except for pumpkin, I can definitely do custard.

I have pics but the 8 year old is always in his underwear so no one needs to see an half necked 8 year ole with flour from head to toe. But he sure did love doing the dough end of it! An I must admit it was delish!

So I have a few questions for you guys. On Aug. 4th I received 24 serama eggs in a pretty beat up box. Nearly all had disrupted air cells, or where complete scrambles. I let them settle for 24 hrs before going into the incubator, placed them upright, didn't turn them for 72 hrs, when I did start turning them I made sure they stayed at recommended angles. I stopped turning at day 16. I'm in lock down now. I only have 6 that have made it this far. I'm preparing for an assisted hatch. I've clearly marked the air cells. What are some things to watch for during hatch when you have saddle sacks or worse in the developing eggs? I've assisted hatches before, but never with such large funky shaped air cells, are there differences in the way you judge when to help?
Tomorrow is the first day they could possibly hatch and I already have 4 rockers and at least 1 internal pip.

I did succeed in getting the post office to replace my eggs, and I received my second shipment today. The box looks pristine, but the eggs inside are as bad as the last. Only 3 have good air cells. I was given the recommendation to only let them settle for a few hours then put them in the incubator then continue babying them like I did the last, with the thought that the developing veins will stabilized the air cells better than extra hours of settling will. What have been peoples experences? should I put them in tonight? or wait til tomorrow?

Thank you very much in advance!
@Fluffyserama

Not much you can do, if your air cells are not too large you should be fine, if you dont get internal pips more than likely they will external and get out, for serama I keep humidity upper 70s during lockdown, I tell everyone at the last five days they really really loose weight very quickly so you have to be careful. Pictures help us to help you, try very hard not to touch those eggs everytime you open the bator it sucks that moisture that has gathered in the teeny tiny porous shells, I try to explain by asking to remember how the air feels on you in the middle of winter or summer, when you open the front door and either that cold or heat hits your skin. you should settle 12 hours and then set them, have you seen this.... the first link will explain how to treat all the dif presentation of air cells on your new eggs.

If you do not get an internal pip chances are the egg is malpositioned and will be a DIS, these you can attempt to assist but they may live an hour up to two days and then just croak anyways, the chances are not worth prolonging the inevitable and the pain to the little critter in there.

I'm getting excited!

sweet!!!!!

Daughter didn't pick up eggs on the last day of our vacation because she thought we would be home in the morning. The thought of tossing 24 eggs really bothered me. So, what was I to do?
I guess Jesus the BCM roo does know what he's doing. (Spanish pronunciation. Named by my youngest son because the chick was always walking on top of the water dish)
2 more are still in the incubator drying. There are ten in all. I tossed some clears and quitters along the way.
BCM x: Silver Wyandotte, RSL, OE, and California Whites. A bunch of mutts, but that's fine with me.
AWEsOME!!!! congrats!!!

Just candled my eggs. The ones I put in on the 9th (1 now), 10th (2), and the 12th (2) are all doing great and moving a bunch (I think one on the 10th might be twins, don't know how to tell). The one i put in on the 15th has great veins and moves around. The 3 on the 17th are veining good and can see a heart beat. The 2 I put in on the 19th have started to get veins. And just added 2 today. Temp good, humidity good. Still losing patience though. Can't wait to have more babies! Hoping they all make it at this point. (Listening to my grandmother saying "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" Takes a whole new meaning when you are ACTUALLY hatching chickens).
lol Good luck!!!! you really need to get another bator, collect eggs and set in batches

I forgot to add, polish, silkies and most especially serama have very very week membranes and ship very hard despite usps conditions, if you ask for how you want your eggs collected and shipped your chances are much higher.... This is our 11 year old daughters serama, she has been breeding them since she was 8 and hatching them non stop since.... we have two batches in the bators now The Amazing Coop of Littles! oh no!!! I m sorrry, I lost a serama and yes dang cocci!!! ughhhhh good luck!!! sweet!!!!! AWEsOME!!!! congrats!!! lol Good luck!!!! you really need to get another bator, collect eggs and set in batches
i know we do need another one even if its just to use it as a hatcher bator when one or 2 is getting ready for lockdown. Just trying to find one i can afford

ughhhh bator said 104!!!! I wonder if the wafer is crapping out after all these years!!!

@BantyChooks
