I just checked the eggs, and there were 4 underside pips, including one I did not find in time. :hit


I think I should lockdown day 19 when I can seee the slant better....

He/she was hatched on Easter. Mom is a Buff Orpington and dad is a BCM.
 
howdy all, hope all is well with everyone, starting to work on a new coop and brooder combo going to use a metal shed to see how it works out, in the process of putting down  wire 2 feet out from the run reason being I lost 2 birds in one night, I know where the critter came through, almost gave up on the birds but I'm no quitter, set 4 eggs in the bator last night, gave 10 of the 12 I hatched 4th to a farm kept 2, I want be breeding any that I have now don't want to do inter breeding. neighbor has 6 hens so may loan my rooster to him and see what happens.  the war is on with me and the predators here,

Help! Just got home from work and my broody and her eggs are covered in ants!!

What to do?

She hopped off the eggs when I opened the top to check on her, hopefully she hasn't been off much?! Ugh!
oh no!!!! Sprinkle baking soda around them and maybe even dust the hen

I believe white vinegar repels ants. That or baking soda. Look it up, and either one should be safe enough even (Imo) spraying on the eggs. Though spraying around the eggs would be better.

I sprinkled baking soda and my broody started pecking at it like its a treat! Lol.

Hopefully that will help. I'm not sure what the ants are after... I checked the eggs and didn't see anything odd, they were not in the feed. Odd!

I have no idea, what day r they on? Could any be rotten? Sniff test?
