I need to weed the garden, so I can plant some stuff I started in planters in the house.... Beats, peas, kale, lettuce, cucumber, watermelon/cantaloupe, a couple types of tomatoes, and some Hot/sweet peppers.

My daughters pumpkins and squash did pretty good outside, so I was hoping we'd have big pumpkins for Halloween, but they haven't started growing the actual part we pick yet. Just big, bushy plants! LOL

Besides cooking the seeds, and making Jack O Laterns, what are some other recipes for pumpkins (including storing it for year round?) the kids like pumpkins and pumpkin pie.

Ok it's a little late in my area to be planting pumpkins or having any if the plants don't have them yet. Next year try the hulless seeds for the pumpkin plant. Crazy awesome for eating. Dig them out rinse bake and eat. No shells. :yesss:

I use a winter squash for long keepers to feed to chickens. One is still left from last year. At this point I'm leaving it just to see how long it last. Not many on the vines this year so it will be slim eating for the chickens.

Most of this is for the chickens/goats. I'm not sure I'd ever get my kids to eat Beets.

We live in a tropical region, Most of our harvesting is done in the winter months, or fall/spring. Summer heats are too hot here. Most people plant in the fall.

I'll be harvesting our pecans and oranges here, between nov-feb.

Goats are so much like toddlers. I was painting a coop this morning, and up walks one of my goats and she started licking the freshly painted wall :sick
I chased her off. I hope it is not too toxic. I do know her milk will be tossed tonight.

Have a great Labor Day everyone. It is time to get back to work.

Home grown beets are in a class by themselves. Balls of sugar.

Peas kale spinach cauliflower broccoli work here in the fall to start of winter after that all bets off. Peas will work through the freeze as its not that bad.

Do try the hulless pumpkin if you like the seeds. They are a little finicky to start and raise but worth it. They don't like cold feet at all and won't start till it's warmer.

They all work for pie but pie pumpkins have sweeter meat.

Slow as in all day. I'm assuming you let them rest for a day or two in the fridge.

Slow as in as long as it takes for the meat to separate from the bone. I usually do 220F for at least 5 hours. I rest mine for a minimum of 3 days.

May give that a try, next spring. We are down by mexico... so bananas, avacados and other stuff grow well here, but when you can buy bananas for 40cents a lbs locally... it's not really worth trying to grow your own.

Older chiken are wonderful in slow cooking chicken and roots vegetable soup!
If you cook in pressure cooker ( I don't use it) it will shorten the time needed.

Indeed, and we have ,according ouer dietary law, to salt them to extract blood , so it gives them anoter tenderness.
For the soup you will need
Onions, carrots, selery roots and leavs, parsley roots, and potatoes.
I ADD if I can find
Fennel, zucchini, pumpkin, cauliflower,
And a nice biff bone full of marrow.

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY
It's not called Labor Day for nothing!
That stack ain't all been created today...I wish I was that fast.
Yep... Cleaning today; which I'm going back to in a few minutes... Got the dog fence nearly done as well; done enough that my dog can run in it. She was sure happy!!

I like anything smooth-gaited. I never was any good on quarter horses; my Walkers spoiled me

Oh, I agree... I'm so spoiled.... When the time comes that I've got a place & the money for horses, I'm purchasing a gaited.
