Yup

I just finished treating a little rooster that had a broken lower leg and gave no medicine even though I have liquid Meloxicam for birds. Tell me what bone and show me how you wrapped it.

Pic above... It is kinda dark here, is it okay if I get pictures tomorrow?

I put in a thin piece of wood on the outside as a splint & wrapped it tight enough to keep it still but loose enough it wouldn't cut off circulation.

That might be a hard one to splint if the joint is involved. They say that in animals that you should immobilize the joints above and below the fracture. How old is it, and how much does it weigh?

-Kathy
Yup.... Made the splint long enough she couldn't move anything except the shank joint. Less than a year, I think, and "a few" lbs... I wasn't able to do a full exam with weight and everything. She's a LF EE hen.

Pictures tomorrow will be fine, and i will see what I can find on wrapping that part of the leg. Regarding pain meds... One on the reasons I chose not to treat with a pain med was that the bird was trod on by my 1300 pound thoroughbred and I was worried about internal bleeding, so didn't want to make matters worse my giving that type of medication.

Thank you!

Part circled is where I splinted.... I use vetwrap and non-stick gauze pads, as well as antibiotic ointment cause she has a scrape on the side too. I wrapped the vetwrap in between the toes too.

Bandage looks rather like this, except thicker, higher up, and with a splint in it.

Banti, my dog isn't given pain meds when he sprains his legs (not as frequently as he used to) because if he doesn't hurt, he will move too much, causing further damage.
