Now that you have a Meat Loaf song going through my head...
Four years, no attacks. One night, five dead. It may never happen again. But I can't stop worrying. I will feel better when I finally get the run redone.

I am super anxious and check on them a couple times a night. I have to get some treats for them to retrain them into the coop at night.

The egg is fine. I didn't pay attention to when they (both parents take turns sitting) began sitting. I know it is due anytime this week. ChickenCanoe is pushing for me to hand raise it! LOL! In that case, I gather I would need squab food. I didn't get too into the diet since I have no intention of interfering with the parents.

Oh good the parents are still there. Somehow I thought they abandoned it and you were somehow incubating it

Well, three birds missed the automatic door shutting, and were huddled on the ramp outside it when I got home. I bet they will be earlier coming in tomorrow. :gig
This is only the second night, and the first time they were free ranging before it shut. The twenty plus birds in the other coop were all inaide :)

Is it adjustable on closing time and is it electric or battery

I'm back. Since summer is coming to an end for us I pulled out the incubator, time to re-read all this useful information.

:thumbsup welcome back!!

I have 13 eggs due in 24 hours. 2 are iffy but there are already lots of pips and peeping. Probably was a little hot occasionally.

:fl

Not too cold. Even in the winter it rarely freezes. It just doesn't ferment as fast. I use warmer water if it's too slow.
:hit I don't have any.
:celebrate
I stirred mine, hope it does something

Yup... They haven't moved back in yet though; and it will be a bit before they find my flock.
:drool No, Bubbles.... No
Smashie, killit, etc..
I've won some word battles with him a few times. :yesss:
Tis easy, get feed, add water, and stir a few x a day... Mine starts bubbing and smelling in a matter of hours even if im starting fresh. Tis amazing!

Lol

Soooo, I just swore that I was done hatching for the year. THEN, my new friend asked if I could hatch out some duck eggs for her since the incubator would be idle otherwise. Of course I said yes....but I have never done ducks. Are they hard? I don't even know the breed, they are large and white. One has a really cute crest, like a toupee.
careful with crests, just be warned, the crest is EXTRA sensitive, like VERY

You are not going to believe this. My Muscovy laid in the chicken nest box.
weirdo

@casportpony
and any of y'all who can answer:
My neighbor has a hen that received injuries from a dog. She does not have any large flesh or (from what I can tell) internal injuries, but her foot appears to be broken- Swollen around the centre and she will not put any weight on it, instead using her wing to hop around.
I cleaned her up, splinted and wrapped her leg, and made her as comfortable as possible. We'd like to give saving her a try, as she is their favourite hen. She eats and drinks well and does not appear to be in shock which leads me to believe she has a fighting chance.... Anything else I can do for her?
Somewhere in my travels around the internet I saw Aspirin can be used for a pain reliever in chickens. Is this true? If so, what dosage and how is it delivered? Thanks.....

I was reading earlier 3 tabs/gallon but I can double check in the am if you'd like

Well I gave the hen some eggs tonight. Shot them right back at me and did not move off the nest. So I laid them in front of her. Will go back later tonight to see if she took them.

:fl

I stopped at the gas station today and while I was pumping gas the craziest thing happened. A mama duck and 9 babies walked right up to me! If I thought I could have caught them they would be in my pond right now. Took me and another person but we finally got them out of the parking lot and to the area I think she came from. The ducklings couldn't have been more than 3-5 days old. They were soooooo cute!!!!!
awwwwwww

Thanks. Fire to the north has us all smoked more like smog but hard to breath.
Official opening of Apple Hill past weekend. We don't go til it gets older. How do your relatives put up with so much traffic in the area.
Where's the new fire at? I don't have very many relatives in that area any more. One Uncle and Aunt and probably some cousins. I think most of the cousins in that family moved away from home.

I was wondering how that would work with those who missed it, let us know if they are earlier tomorrow

@Chaos18Sssh don't tell, but I did not think it was a very pretty bird either.
