Daily at least. Because a sundae is a tasty treat.
mine has been sitting for over 24 hours and does NOT look like this
LL
sally said this was after 12 hours of sitting
is it runny? just add more feed! let the stuff sit at least two days!
I have 13 eggs due in 24 hours. 2 are iffy but there are already lots of pips and peeping. Probably was a little hot occasionally.
:fl
So it't normal for them to start peeping before they pip the internal membrane? -Kathy
I'm just saying 'they can'. I'm a little different. I don't dote over them. I give them proper temp and sometimes even proper humidity. If they hatch, I know they're strong. If they're weak, they don't belong.
:thumbsup

@casportpony I'm sure most here disagree with my point of view. If I gave better incubation conditions, I may get more embryos that were vigorous. I want something that is hard to kill. Something that will survive no matter what. Breeder health and nutrition is a big key that IMHO, few consider. I can't raise chickens that need my help generation after generation. From the start, I adopt a mother hen strategy. She doesn't dote until they are viable on their own. She gives good incubation conditions. She can't and won't intervene if the chick can't emerge on its own. They haven't needed our help for millions of years. There's no reason they need our help now just because we want to dote. Call me cruel.
Cruel Paddler! but I am too, although I have my nice moments less frequently:lau
Backups of thread articles DONE! Gonna take a whole lotta effort to completely mess it up now. :yesss:

All of these can be used in poultry, but many are not FDA approved, and some are banned in poultry that can be used as food animals. http://www.exoticpetvet.net/avian/avianmeds.html http://avianmedicine.net/content/uploads/2013/03/18.pdf http://avianmedicine.net/publication_cat/clinical-avian-medicine/ Stuff like Tylenol and Advil are not used in avian medicine. -Kathy

You make me laugh! -Kathy

It happens fast.
Or a ladder.
I had a few birds that all of a sudden decided to sleep on the roof of another pen. I had to use a ladder and net each night to retrieve them. I had moved the ladder and one night after locking up, I went to get the ladder. I got sidetracked and 20 minutes later I went to get the birds. I found one of the pullets hiding in the grass, one was dead, 2 were gone (never to return).

I had a rooster in a cage in the driveway right next to my porch at dusk. I was going to carry him inside when it got fully dark. I went out to get him and a raccoon had already pulled him through the cage.

What brand are they?
After thinking long and hard on this, I decided against the dusk to dawn type. Sometimes if there's a bad storm moving in near dusk, the sky get's so dark I'm worried the door will close. Add to that most of the coops are under heavy shad and only get sunlight at dawn.
I'm not that concerned about opening times.
I'm going to base closing on date, time and latitude.
I found this algorithm for calculating.
http://williams.best.vwh.net/sunrise_sunset_algorithm.htm

Why? Because you think the issue is genetic? Or that there is a problem preventing those specific eggs from hatching?

got it :thumbsup
I'm thinking of using this for doors. It's lightweight but very strong and they can't chew a hole in it.

They ours cancelled a planned meeting.
Then theirs apologized.
Now they'll be meeting some time later this year.

Very cool.

Did you rent the scaffolding?

She's up on the Ozark plateau so it is gently rolling hills. My brother lives down there.
...
I just won't read it.

X2 Stick a bunch of fertile eggs in an incubator with a unreliable thermometer - BAM actual temp goes to 106 and you have instant and forever clears.

So if the egg is still in the nest with both parents, why your big concern?

You also misunderstood that I was trying to get you to hand raise it. I was just trying to help if there were no dove parents.

Deet
Both types have models like the ones I bought that can operate on light, or be set on times. You just have to adjust that regularly when the daylight changes like once a week.

@BantyChooks you already found the one i tagged so nvm

@Sally Sunshine do you know where to find export rules/laws for poultry?

Good Morning @casportpony !!

@Sally SunshineThe front half of my twelve acres is pretty flat and then is slopes down to the pond further down to the wet weather water run and then it slopes up into the woods at the back. The goats are currently in the front pasture that I call the meadow. I am buying one section of fence at time working my way around with each kid sold :)
