I've been looking at DIY bat boxes and Martin houses. I'm also going to cut some brush close to the house today. A friend in New Orleans area had good luck with the electric dyna trap. I have it set up, but no luck yet. It's supposed to break the life cycle within 4-6 weeks.

The parish comes and sprays if the weather conditions are right, but that's also only a temporary fix.
Again, "better living through chemistry".I believe I'd sooner put up with mosquitoes than live with more harmful chemicals in the environment.

I have been using Mosquito barrier that is 100% garlic that has worked for those pesky bugs... You can buy it online.

Another neat spider friend!

pretty

Sally, think this will be big enough for a duck house? Or save it for silkies?

This pic is a few years old. That pup is dead and bubba is twice that size.

I sold 4 of my 6 chicks within hours of putting them online (i wanted to keep 2) around here people really want and buy rhode island production reds, with that being said i seen the potential of making some money! I refuse to use my cooler bator, i want to buy a good one if im going to do it again. What does everyone recommend?

lol, stop posting useful stuff and we'll stop ovating

Sad tip of the day... If ever you have a bird that walking around acting drunk, and you're pretty sure it's not Marek's, (which it won't be if it's a duck, turkey, goose, peafowl, etc), please do not wait until morning to do something about it.

Was not one of mine, but when I read the post last night I knew in my heart that they would have a dead bird this morning.

Someone posted about a peahen that was acting drunk. I've seen it a few times with mine, and unless you start aggressive care they aren't gonna live.

-Kathy
When a friend's did it it was because the hen had capillary worms and coccidiosis, was dehydrated, hypothermic and probably hypoglycemic. With mine it's hard to know since I treated for worms, coccidia, bacterial infections, blackhead, dehydration, hypothermia and hypoglycemia.

Not that y'all asked, but I'm sharing anyway. It's also gluten free!

Camping's red beans and rice

2 packs andouille sausage (any smoked sausage works)
3 cans of light red kidney beans
1 can of mild rotel

Season to taste (I used six pepper, dehydrated onion flakes, paprika, coarse salt, and parsley). I added two packs of sodium-free chicken bouillon mixed with two cups of water, then added enough water to almost cover everything. Cook on high for 6 hours.

30 minutes before serving I added two cups of dry rice. Served with green salad.

I don't usually use the rotel, but it was really good! Mushrooms would be good in it too, or corn and black beans. It wasn't like traditional red beans and rice, but I think I'll make it like this from now on.

@silverhair we also use a solar setup from harbor freight. It works oot pretty good just to power something small. We just use a small strip of led lights in the coop, usualy during the winter to keep the lights on a little longer once the sun goes down. We only have one set of panels so far. More are needed to keep a good charge of you're going to be running something bigger or for longer periods of time.
I just stated tinkering with yesterday, planning to add a second battery, have to build a watertight box for the controller and converter
