Home for lunch at the moment, and thought I'd give an update. All 11 of my 4/27/2016 hatch are doing great, but they look a little ragged since they're just coming out of molt. All still have tails coming in, and I'm waiting on the "shag" to cover the male's necks and backs. It's coming slowly, but surely. They're 19 1/2 weeks old, and I believe it won't be much longer before the pullets reach POL. All in all, they look healthy and the males are starting to bulk up some after their last growth spurt. My pullets have nice feathers with good sheen, as can be seen when the pullet walks into the sunlight in the beginning of this video. Feel free to leave any compliments or criticism. These are my first purebred RIR, so I'm still figuring out what's good and/or bad about them...

Thanks. In my previous hatches the chicks have pipped and zipped quickly, which is why this seems strange to me. Also, the eggs are completely quiet, which worries me also. But we'll see what happens. I ordered more chicks, my husband is gonna kill me, haha!

Not sure why it won't play through for you, but 21 seconds will give you a general idea of what the rest of them look like. So far, I'm pleased with what I'm seeing in them. Of course, that may change by early spring when I start matching them up for mating. Time will tell... 

, I saw some nice bricks, pretty combs, and nice tail angles(wish mine were as nice). It was good to see that on yours like mine the young males are darker. I was wondering about mine yesterday. I am sorry you got so few, but they are nice and you got more pullets than me. I wish mine would lay 3/26 too, but at least their combs have changed.

I had a broody hen that had been sitting on Infertile eggs for about 5 weeks. I gave her 5 of the babies I had just hatched inside. 1 got squished in the first week. Ended up with 1 silkie and 3 EEs. She did great with them for the first month. They are all getting big, but the silkie never really kept up with the others. These babies squeeze out of the run and wander the entire yard. As we are working, they walk under our feet. The silkie was the only one that didn't wander - it stayed near mom.. But the silkie is the one that disappeared a few days ago. We think the hawk that lives in our yard took it.

Ok, so genetics...we had a white EE roo, and brown EE hens. When these parents were babies, the roo was brown, but he got whiter as he got older. Their babies are white from the first permanent feathers. 1 of the 3 is twice the size of the other 2. So, I think I have 1 boy and 2 girls. Why didn't I get any brown EE chicks? The EE hens were from a different breeder than the roo.

I have never heard peeping eggs, lol I think my DH is pretending he didn't see 4 eggs in my incubator
