I have 8 silkie eggs that are on day 4 in the incubator.

Congratulations on the silkies. A friend of mine has NN silkies. I had some from him till they were taken by varmits.

Ok, thanks. I finally figured out that weird metallic like smell. A black yolk.., found it yesterday. Since I have 3 bators side by side it made it hard to figure out which one it was. I didn't find it by smell either, candling revealed it, surprised in the kitchen when opening them and doing the eggtopsies. Pretty sure the last incubator I got his having continual heat spikes as several of the eggs tossed were good at 3 days, not at 7... 2 developed to about 5 or 6 days... I moved the remaining eggs into my first incubator, which was mostly responsible for my marans making it as far as they did... I have new thermometers on the way, but still got a few days I need these guys to go till I can see how off my first extra thermometer might have been... I see the draw of home made incubators now

Well guys bad news.. My Serama roo Stan did not look good to me so I called my breeder friend (who also happens to be a nurse) and rushed him over to her house to brainstorm. He did not make it. I stopped to get gas and looked in the box.. He was gone

I did however participate in my first poultry necropsy as the "photographer". I don't have any pics but they are posted on the poultry necropsy facebook page by her. So far no real answers. All my other birds are ok. I'm just bummed because I was working with him on the table days ago and he was doing great!!! So I won't get to show him as planned on 10/8 and his girlfriend is so sad by herself as am i..... Heartbreaking when you lose a pet...

I'm ever so slowly getting better... And it's not in a straight line either.... Seems I get better then a little worse then better..... But it's trending better. I was able to go hunting today so that was a plus.

Weekends are too hard to stay current. Just popping in to say banty cochins are hatching! Hoping for fluffy babies in the morning.

I have a fish tank setup as my incubator lol ihave tinfoil on the outside to help keep the temp up its at a steady 100 degrees f watchin that closely tho just in case! It has a heat lamp with a 75 watt bulb in it for the heat source towels on top to keep heat and humidity levels going steady. Also have two glass jars of water for humidity one on each end Of the bator. And I have a digital thermometer In it too paper towels in the bottom to provide a less slippery surface for the chicks and right now I got 23 quail eggs and a dozen chicken eggs in it they bed. In there a day already so I'm turning them as we speak! lol chickens are a possible mix of silver laced wyandottes and some kinda bantam idk wat tho or if there's even any bantams mixed in the lady says shecollects them from all over her yard cuz her two clicks are the chickens I mentioned before and they r free range birds so she never knows which birds laid which eggs son ether look alike when they r eggs my quail eggs are coturnix quail so those will b an excited thing to see! Lol wish me luck peeps! Lol
