We have the opposite problem here. The state's deer population is so large that they're creating a problem for motorists and farmers. The limit for does is all but non-existent. The state's gone to turning gov't sharpshooters loose; they kill anything that moves, regardless of sex or age, and let them lay to rot, rather than donating them to the poor & hungry. I guess they don't trust private hunters not to shoot one another :barnie  On top of that, we can check deer in online; don't even have to go to a check station. All that does is encourage poaching. Eventually, the unlimited doe limits is going to decimate the population, and deer hunting will be only a memory, to the delight of the anti-gun & anti-hunting factions.
over population is seldom a problem north of the bridge where I live..... Occasionally after a few mild winters..... But since the wolf population exploded no longer..... There are almost no deer around last year..... I think they made a comeback this year I've seen several does with three fawns...... This is really a hard place for deer.... More a moose environment......

We have deer here, but it's the wild hogs/pigs that they want to eradicate. Things are vicious and reproduce like crazy.

Quote: I wasn't questioning her skill, you have mentioned she breeds, shows, judges goats shows.Hopefully she'll say you don't have that in your area. I just ask because Meningeal starts at the rear, while Goat Polio and Listeria typically start at the head, and you had mentioned that Listeria, goat polio, and a few other possibilities.
Here is the worming treatment if it does end up being a possibility (It can't be positively identified without necropsy, so hopefully the doe gets better and you don't find out with 100% certainty)

The curative treatment (treatment for infected goats displaying symptoms) has changed in 2013. Very high dosages of fenbenzadole (Safeguard/Panacur or equivalent) at a dosing rate of ten times the label dosage. Liquid Safeguard's label dose is 2.3 cc (ml) per 100 pounds bodyweight, which means that you must multiply this by 10 and dose at 23 cc (ml) per 100 pounds bodyweight. You can use Safeguard paste, also dosing at ten times the label's dosage rate based upon the goat's body weight. Treatment is given once a day for five consecutive days. Ivermectin was eliminated from the curative treatment protocol because researchers at Ohio State University found that it didn't penetrate the spinal column to kill the worms, so once neurological symptoms appeared, using Ivermectin was ineffective. If the goat is down and can't get up on its own, the chance for recovery is not good. An anti-inflammatory drug like Banamine can be useful in alleviating the inflammation of nerve tissue. Dexamethasone may also be used, but it will cause abortions in pregnant does.

@mlm MikeWhat is the dosing on Dexamethasone? I just got the 2010 Mereks last week. It looks like more reading. Oh joy, technical manuals.

This is what I have for it, (it's under the treatment for Goat Polio or Listeriosis) didn't mention dosage in the Meningeal section

Dexamethasone dosage is 5 to 6 cc per 100 pounds bodyweight given IM in decreasing amounts daily. Example: Goat is 100 pounds liveweight. Dosage is 6 cc into the muscle on Day One, 5 cc on Day Two, 4 cc on Day Three, 3 cc on Day Four, 2 cc on Day Five, one cc on Day Six, nothing on Day Seven. If the goat is over 100 pounds, drop dosages daily in increments of two or three cc's. Example: Dose a 200 pound goat at 12 cc on Day One, 10 cc on Day Two, 8 cc on Day Three, 6 cc on Day Four, 4 cc on Day Five, 2 cc on Day Six, nothing on Day Seven. Dexamethasone should be tapered off rather than quit abruptly. This writer would be reluctant to use Dexamethasone on young kids six months of age or less except under the direction of my veterinarian.

My daughter wants to go to the Zoo... it's like 20+ a person for a kid, and almost 30 for an adult. When did Zoo prices get to be so expensive?!

So 3 chicks total have hatched from this batch. I'm going to float test the rest of them and see if I get any movement because they are going on about 3 days late hatching as of today. Do ya'll hatch through the winter? I was thinking this would be my last attempt at hatching in my incubator since it will start to get cold in a couple weeks and I am not set up to have indoor chickens! lol I live in the panhandle of Texas and the average first freeze is October 15th.
