okay, went outside and changed the hay/straw around in the nesting box. As soon as I did that, white fluff, jumped in and started trying to lay an egg for me! LOL

I'll have to go back out there to grab them soon. I got the goats fed, and took the dogs around all the animals. My dog lulu likes to bow and jump at the chickens, to make them scatter. She doesn't chase them, but it amuses her to watch them jump around. LOL

She ignores them when she's in the coop/kennel with them or in their free range area.

I talked to the guy who's got turkeys, he's got ducks and turkey's set to hatch next week, so I think i'll be getting 8-10 turkey poults from him and 6-8 ducks. (he said he had some random chickens due to hatch too, so he might throw in a few random things for the kids based on what hatches by shipping time.) I'm kind of excited. I have one more kennel I can setup behind the shed for them until they are full grown, then they can free range 90% of the day once they are closer to full grown. I don't see them wandering off but we will see..

Edited to add : I think I'll use my new incubator to try a second batch (larger) of RIR and silkies. We shall see.
Fun! What color turkeys? What kinds of ducks? What kinds of chickens does he have?

You just said that kajira is an insect. .....

His are half heritage red and the blue slate turkeys, so they can breed naturally, but the chicks are "red white and blue" according to him. He said the eggs are good, and his turkeys are super friendly. He also raises all of his chickens/ducks/fowls together and never had a incidence of black head or merriks, so he sounds like he's got really healthy animals.

The ducks I forgot what he called them, but they don't fly, and do okay in the heat and produce lots of eggs per year, so his are good egg layers, which is promising. I wanted ducks for their eggs, since i'm allergic to chicken eggs and am hoping I can eat duck eggs with out a problem.

He also has all sorts of random chicken breeds, so if he throws in a few extra of those, we'll see what we end up with.

He's charging me a reasonable price, 8 per turkey poult, and 5 per duck. Which isn't bad. A lot of the hatchery want double that per turkey, and 6-12 per duck.

I don't live in Texas, but that is not a great price IMO.
