Morning. How are things in TX?
mice. I hate mice. the mice and the mosquitos are the two things I hate the most about the country. (okay, and ticks... and wasps, and scorpions... and...)

But I have chickens? That makes everything all better?

And, I don't know. I think it's supposed to be 90-98 all week, so no rain this week. Just warm, humid weather.

Sounds like fun. Could make a 5 gallon bucket trap for the mice to go swimming in. I keep on up in my barn. Works pretty good too. If you catch them shortly after they die the chickens will eat them.

My problem is once I'm awake, I have the hardest time going back to sleep and my alarm's set to go off at 8am, and it's now like 3 minutes to 6.

My big old-man cat, has never killed mice. He just lays there and watches them. He sometimes corners them and carries them around, but he never has killed one.
...
You're afraid of her, huh? I'm afraid of my teenager. He talks back a lot more than my toddler does and I never know what's going to come out of his mouth next. Usually something along the lines of "I'm bored" and "mom you're soooo mean."
You have a lot of cats. I am surprised mice dare show themselves!
I don't want to think about her being a teen. Among other things, I worry about a smart mouthed kid that I won't be able to control. If she is anything like her bio family, she will be burning me in my bed.

We tried to make one of those in our kitchen and my toddler kept dumping the bucket out everytime he went in there, so it wasn't a go. They somehow get the dryer vent off the back of the house and slip in that way. I keep telling my husband to screw the vent into the brick, but he doesn't want to do that, he likes being able to take it off to clean it out as needed.

The downside? the mice figured out how to pull it off, too.

He said he'd try to fix it tonight. :hmm we'll see if he remembers when he gets home from work or not.

Lots of us from the general area. Was just downtown Sac today. Work from Elk Grove to Marysville

I'm also part of the NorCal crew... Just south of Sac about 45-60min... Little River town, Rio Vista... Humphrey the whale came through here :)

Well hello to you! Yay NorCal!! I miss home. I'm familiar with Rio Vista. See my hub and I are retired truck drivers. We've literally been to every town in the lower 48. Pretty cool considering before I was 30 I'd not been out of California but a few times to Reno!! Then within a year,I had seen the lower 48 states! I'm blessed to have experienced such beautiful country. Montana is a fav of ours. Just beautiful there. We have a lifelong dream to go to Alaska. Would love to fully homestead but we were in a near fatal wreck 5 years ago. We were in our semi truck and were hit by another semi truck. At 80 mph. It was the freakiest experience ever. Now,we're both badly injured. My lower back is screwed for life. But! God is so good. We do not dwell on what we're no longer able to do but are grateful for what we can still do. In much pain...but nevertheless we are blessed!!! We homestead on our farm as much as we can. Would love to be more self sustainable in the future. All things are possible through Christ!

Mint oil. Mice hate mint. Put it on cotton, put it on your husband, and make him sit by the dryer vent. Put it all over.

We have a total of 7 cats. (all are fixed, we rescued a momma cat, and had babies, and then my daughter talked her dad into keeping ALL the kittens, except 1, she gave one to her best friend... then she found another kitten and rescued THAT one from a parking lot. It had been separated from it's mom who was a feral and the kitten trusted her enough to let her grab it.)

She convinced her dad, to keep that one too. After I got all of the cats fixed, the 4 barn cats live outside, my old man cats live inside (They are both in double digits and haven't spent a day outside in their life with out supervision), with the feral kitten she rescued. I hand raised the litter, so they are friendly and don't run away, but the feral kitten I never trusted to go outside, I was worried she wouldn't come back and my daughter would have been heartbroken.

If I asked for a cat, my husband would say no, but my daughter bats her pretty eyelashes at him and she gets whatever her heart desires. (which is how we ended up with chickens, and a pony.)

I think my outdoor cats, do a pretty good job of mousing outside. I always see them carrying stuff around.

As to kids... we lock up our sharp knives. and anything flammable. Or toxic. If we all survive teenager-hood... maybe i'll take that trip to harry potter world someday. :p

Going downhill, or was it an Owner/Op?
I am sorry.

lol they also hate dryer sheets, certain scents of soap, and peppermint oil, I used all of those in my kitchen. They eventually get immune. The little sonar bug repellent things that you plug into the walls worked for a while too.
