Don't know if they knew he's a kid, didn't care, or what the reason was. Poster was such a nice person before, but flipped in the blink of an eye. Still don't know if it was serious or in fun... but whatever it was... it was a little extreme.

Ok, so I missed all the drama. I was wet vacing a flooding basement. Rain has finally stopped and basement is drying.
What I want to know is did any of CH's eggs hatch while he was gone hunting. I've read back through a lot of pages but I'm guessing that info was "culled" by the Mods doing a clean up.

We dont know yet. trying to get him back on. afternoon Karen

Good morning all!! Way too many posts for me to catch up on. Bad record keeping on my part early is why 1 egg that did not hatch on 12/26, shouldn't really hatch until 1/1, but I'm not sure which of the 3 left over eggs it is. So, I'm not touching them until 1/1. I am NOT comfortable assisting ANYONE hatch at this point anyway. I'm sorry to any little chickies I kill by doing that. I figure if a chick is not strong enough to hatch itself, it isn't meant to hatch - the strongest survive?

The way I'm looking at it, the 12/26 eggs consisted of the VERY FIRST eggs these hens ever laid. EVERY one of them was fertilized (good rooster). The fact that 10 of the first 12 that I put in the incubator hatched - that is 10 more than I expected to successfully hatch. If these 3 that have been in lockdown since 12/24 don't hatch without help, I will be sad, but not disappointed. I'm already 10 better than I expected.

Again, thank you all for the AMAZING help! These 10 chickies would not have arrived without you! Let's hope a few more hatch on 1/1.

I will try to catch up on everyone's posts later. Now I actually have to head in to the office for a bit. First trip away from the babies....How will I handle it?

Welcome to the madness! As for the "pro's", there's only a couple of us that fill that bill; the rest of us are students, so you're in good company.

She started Christmas Day which was a great present for me. She is the first of my flock of light Sussex to set, so I have no idea if she plans on staying on the eggs for the whole 21 days or not. *fingers crossed* but she seems quite protective of her clutch thus far and tired nipping at my hand when I got to close.

thats pretty many days out, I wouldn't add more to under her. mark the ones she has, and keep checking for new ones and take them out too. If you can candle them its always good so you can pull the bad ones because a blown up stinker on the bottom of a hen is bad.

I keep a chain mail glove handy, just for that occasion
