I thought Cock-a-doodle-Doo sounded a little corny... thus the true sound of a rooster!   :lau

Huh... I'm not taking any chances!

I have no knowledge. If I knew where to get some, I'd buy it!!!    :lau

I appreciate the input. I'm still fairly new, and haven't gone through all the info, so I'm still learning...   :idunno

I throw pottery... DE is in the clay and the glazes I've made... respiratory masks are required to make glaze... makes me leery of tossing it around my chickens... ;)

I didn't mean to sound like I was promoting DE.  I started the post with "I've heard"...   ;)

You're fine... I was just passing on my knowledge of it too... ;)

DE, ivermectin, dosing, worming, pumkin seeds, Corid, syringe feeding, leaving sick birds in the cold... All hot buttons to me.

Kathy, I'm curious... did you ever get your hands on some of the pour on to 'test' with? I seem to remember you saying that you did it with the injectable, right?

The water soluble test?

The only thing I use it for is when I completely clean out a coop. It gets sprinkled on the floor, roosts, especially corners before I put down shavings.

Yep, that's what I do... when their dust bath spot is already really dusty, I will put a bit there too, but that's it... :)

There is another option for deworming. It is human deworming substance called Vermox .
The active ingredient is Mebendazole , which is a wide dewormer action affects all kinds of worms. The affective dosage is 30 mg/kg chicken.
In suspension it is 1.5ml/kg chicken
In tablet it is 1/3 tablet for 1 kg chicken. Normally in standard chicken you should use 1 tablet for a chicken.
You should deworm another time 10 days after the first.

SWEET!

Made some progress on cabinet, but, the honey do list took most of my time yesterday.
Taking pics as I go, I will post when it starts to actually look like something.
Right now it's just a whole bunch of pieces on the work bench and floor in the garage.

Moved chicks to new enclosure last night, still have a gate up 24/7 just in case, but the little dog can climb fences. It's weird.. Well, the Border Collie Reba Gurardian is still here, and she can easily jump the gate. Here as long as she can, until I force her out to take a break. Got a new bulb yesterday, ran out of 120 Watt bulbs, only had 250 Watt Red ones, which was annoying, but it worked in the meantime. Doggies can't get in anymore.

awwwww love the pup too!

Hi, Canoe!

All this talk about lice and worms. I had chickens at my last house for about 6 years. I've had them at this house for 4. I have never had a worm problem, or lice. Only problem I've had to deal with is the soft eggs before I knew they needed added calcium. They now free feed oyster shells. My broody hen looked pretty bad when she finally stopped brooding, but she is coming back.

I do have my older hen with a swollen back end, but that doesn't seem to be related to anything treatable.

Does EVERYONE have these issues? Are there ways to treat these problems naturally - without chemicals?

Thanks!!
I like drugs that work but there are alot of things you can try, but I wouldnt waste my time or money on them.

I've heard the Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is good at preventing a lot of these parasites. 2% mixed in food for worms, and sprinkling it in dusting area, run, and coop will prevent lice.
DE ??? no way you know how many people post on here they have lice the DE is useless and worms and other stuff? I think you can gather all those posts up and knock that crap off the market. just sayin

I bought a huge bag and put it everywhere... It did nothing to prevent lice and did not treat lice when I covered the birds with it.

I put garden lime down on the floor, and a fine sprinklin of preth dust and then shavings....it helps with spiders makin webs too, hate them all covered up with chicken dander... grosses me out! and I do the ivermectin pour on and ON a schedule. I have seen this stuff at a friends house, NEVER EVER EVER want it either. I use it and safeguard on my dogs too, alternating injectable oral and pour on. prevents all with the fenben heartworm including. But its not safe on some types of dogs... its the secret meds that no Vet wants you to know
