Mine's only been used twice; once about 20-30 yrs ago for bob whites & once this fall for some of my own RSL's Only trouble I had was finding the "sweet spot" on the temp screw.

I found not to use the locknut too much

If you mess with the nut when adjusting it throws the wafer of kilter, or off it's axis

makes it tilt one side or the other, throwin it off

How many are you hatching?

Hi Shellee!
Don't be terrified. Lot's of good, friendly, experience people here to answer any question you might have.
Thank you! Can I get the Cliff's notes version of the hard and fast rules of shipped eggs, please? I know they need to 'sit' a few days... I know she started collecting some earlier this week.

Husband and I really want to move back to Texas in about ten year (preferably the SA area but I ain't picky). San Antonio allows 3 chickens before needing a livestock permit but my worry is that we won't find a home that won't have an HOA. HOAs in this town WILL NOT allow chickens. Way too early to worry but hey, that's what I do.

In other news, the girls are doing alright according to Husband's cousin. Still waiting on a picture or two, we have photos of the dogs and snakes and those critters are okay. I'm nervous that my paperwork will cause an issue at the border and I won't be allowed back in the country. I miss my animals and while I love my family I do want to go home.

Thanks to @Sally Sunshine for the late night welcome, and encouragement, last night! As per her suggestion, I will just paste a copy of my (now edited) note to her:

Hi Sally!
I lurked and followed the NY hatch along beginning to end because I was really excited to learn about hatching my own eggs... Now I'm terrified! I'm not a total moron, I taught myself how to graft fruit trees while on house arrest with our firstborn, have bred canaries, golden retrievers and leopard tortoises... I have two, science based, bachelor degrees, and yet, I've convinced myself I won't get one live chick! We've put in an order to have eggs shipped from CT to CA- Following the many praises I saw in the HAL, I went with the Genesis 1588. I purchased the turner but have gathered, from you fine folks, it's not good to use with shipped eggs.

I need all the advice you can give... Thank you!!!
Shellee
Welcome Shellee!! glad you came over! your thermo and hygros are calibrated? bator was run and holding steady temps day and night? you understand that humidity is NOT a set number its all about weight loss in the egg? whatcha so worried about?

Okay, I am all caught up! Duckling is finally asleep again, and if she would stop having those dumb night terrors maybe we could both get some sleep tonight!
Good night, all!
night MC

Help. I posted in emergencies. My rooster has swelling so his eyes are shut, and he is tilting his head and opening his beak sounding gargle/gurgly like he is having trouble breathing.
link?

Decided not to set next week

It is to hectic to hatch more...

1) My grow out pen and brooder are full

2) I have to many roosters

3) I need to build another coop.

4) Have to sell 4 duccle roosters, so i can get EE cockerals to start my serama EE project
