I was in your spot 2 days ago my conclusion are:
1 you HAVE to put in a relabel thermometer, I dont have confidence on the digital ones, so I put an extra alcohol thermometer which is the most relabel one.
2. You should ignore the thermostat reading and go only according to the reading of the thermometer that you are shore about its accuracy .
3. You should program your thermostat that the temp will stay at 37.5-38C all the time! Even when the lights go off! This is the all point!!!
In my thermostat I achieved that goal while the thermostat was on : temp 40.7C and the d( delta that will switch on ) was-0.9C!
