Yes, you all can come and live in Israel!

How do you deal with all the tourism? I'd just want to hide. I don't like people.

Ok! I'm playing with the idea of finally putting these eggs in...but that means I'm officially starting... YIKES! I patched the minor cracks I discovered while candling them all (eventually from the CORRECT end, and everything has been resting. I'm coming up on 24 hours since I unpacked them all and set them in the cartons. We have ended up with 45... I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to fit the silkie eggs Jessimom generously gave me this morning, so I might just hand onto them for the next one! I'm calibrating thermometers one last time... EEEEk!

Wow! It's amazing how obvious the answer can be... once someone points it out! We can do that & make 2 of them & keep it small enough to haul easily but big enough to last the day ( as long as it doesn't freeze before then. Is there anything "natural" that you can add to the water itself to slow down the rate at which it freezes?
Make sure to use cold water, not warm; won't freeze as quick

how many silkie eggs you get? You should add them ALLLLL

If they aren't used to this from birth.. How do you get chickens to use one?
When we put them up ( on the pvc pipe) we jiggled the nipple so that water dripped. It just took 1 chicken to try it and then the rest copied her. They were well over 2 years old. So unlike dogs (LOL)chickens can learn new tricks.

Salt, or sugar, you can try electrolytes!
+1.

My chickens must be invalids

The stupid 25 dollar bucket with nipples is still out there and not once have they used it.
I bought a pack of 10 and drilled holes in a 2 qt pitcher and a 1 gal pitcher. I put the 2 qt in the brooder with my 3 week old chicks, and they started pecking away at the shiny nipples. Once they figured out it gave them water, all of them attacked it. I put the 1 gallon pitcher in the run with my layers, and they immediately started drinking out of it. As long as there's water in it and it isn't frozen, they'll drink from it and won't touch the 3 gallon bucket with the vertical nipples. Have you tried removing all other sources of water to encourage them to use your buckets with nipples?
