@Sally Sunshine This is the egg that had the big air cell. I was trembling when I opened it. On day 19, I quickly candled it before entering the lockdown. Movement detected. Day 22, egg #1 hatched. Today is day 24 and I candled it one last time, no movement. So I braved myself and cracked open.
I wonder what happened. It looked like the butt part is not fully formed? Please educate me. I am a novice.

Sally could obviously tell you more, but it just looks like he didn't hatch. I had one that didn't hatch for no reason, fully formed, and I believe it was because the aricell was so big they couldn't move around, but who knows? The stuff you're seeing on his butt is probably just the greenish poop stuck to their butts, like leftovers after developing everything in the chick. Did you pull his head out, and stretch the chick out? My vet (tutor) made me open a ton of eggs with chicks that had died at different stages to determine causes. Sometimes they just don't hatch. Was he malpositioned possibly? Or his head not far enough under his wing for his beak to reach the air cell? Hope this helped, even if just a little.

I told you guys I set 21 eggs... Well, today they somehow multiplied. 4 more eggs magically appeared in there. I don't know how it happened. Actually, I do. It was my Mom. I walked in just as she closed the lid to the incubator. I told her nothing has developed yet, no need to open it, and she told me that was not the reason, and then she left. Looked in, more eggs appeared. In all the wrong spots to boot. She couldn't have made them more noticeable.

Top one looks like not enough air/weight was lost in incubation,
Humidity too high?

Thanks! How are your chickies?
getting big! I stopped by northwest seed and fell in love with a cream one I named her Dolly[/quote]

Was it from a group of 8 in there? Could be one of the ones I sold them if it was a mixed chick. The 6 I have left are so cute! I will be putting them out with a heat pad soon, I will need to sell them eventually but they are so cute I love them.

I don't know what I did, but, I fixed the turner! We're back in the game! I certainly hope I didn't screw things up with handling eggs and the temperature loss... Good morning, @Sally Sunshine... Thought I'd line myself up early on your Sunday morning docket.

It was. We were there for a different reason but you know how it goes

I am not sure. I had set the humidity at lockdown between 70-80. The other chick hatched and very healthy.

But now she is a lone chick....

And @Mirajane , no I did not open up the chick. I cracked the shell with knife and then I jumped and ran to the corner, screaming.... LOL.... My husband watched me in horror at my behavior lol.

I hope @Sally Sunshine will give her 2-cent tomorrow
