It's possible there was an old egg in there that broke, but so many were broken and really mushed up, they soaked the cardboard and were really just starting to smell bad. Bad to the untrained nose, not bad by my standards of rotten eggs! And these eggs were in the mail since Friday.

So here are the pics! I can't blame the PO too much on this one. The eggs were not packed properly at all. She just didn't know how and sent them off before I knew it!
Unbelievably, there are 4 that are not broken. Out of a dozen...I think. Most were not just sitting there broken, but were smashed as if you stomped on them with your foot. Yolks and whites not discernible, looked like they were whisked! The 4 that are not broken, one has a traveling air cell, one has an extreme saddle cell and the other two, I can't tell where the air cell is, so maybe scrambled..... I had to wash them, used hot water and tektrol. They are setting upright in the bator... I will give any sign of life a chance I guess... My weakness..

Fire BCM couple dozen in there from our laying pen that will be mixed, hatching thurs-fri 1/15. other sets? Making bators too. Just cleared the hatcher of 22-23 dry babies. Lots of wet ones (about same amount) left in there and 7 or 8 more pipped. Looks like it's shaping up to be another 90%+ hatch again. A couple dozen BCM's and about 3 dozen out of our free range layer pen.

So out of those 10 remaining, 7 are developing nicely

They're on day 7. I ended up receiving 16 shipped from GA, they looked good considering the single digit temps- only 3 saddles and none cracked. They're on day 3 today, will candle Wednesday maybe.

Venymae Rooster was shooting blanks. 5/7 clear and the other 2 are very questionable looking. Plus the two that are questionable are the ones that won't turn. I think I'm going to try and return this Brinsea. It's just not worth the $$. It holds temp great, and looks awesome,but it's got to be perfect for how much it costs and it's not doing it for me. @venymae
Jessimom I had 6 of the 9 eggs in lock down hatch. 2 were fully grown, but dead in the shell, the 3rd died much earlier. I still have 18 silkies set to hatch on the 22nd. The 12 Salmon Faverolle eggs and 11 Cochin eggs that were shipped 3000 miles... 6 quitters, only 12 went into lock down 1/20....plus my air cells are too small on several of them. Worst hatch yet.

I have an incubator from the 50s that is not very even tempered so i figured it wouldnt hatch but its halfway zipped....looks like I may end up with ONE pet chick....oh man, here we go again. Fire Ant Farm two tandem hatches, setting this week and next week - my first time (guess I don't know the meaning of moderation!!!!). I originally was just going to do some Naked Neck aloha hatching eggs (to arrive next week), but my beloved hero rooster Dumbledore from my little Cream Legbar family was attacked by several terrier dogs while protecting the rest of the chickens (such a little super hero!). He survived and will likely make a full recovery, though he has been plucked halfway to dinner and has wounds that need healing indoors. But I decided to try to set his girls' eggs earlier than planned/ASAP, just in case. So I have one incubator up and to temp (Brinsea Octagon), and the second one will be set up tonight (R-Com 20).
