Every now and again I put my trucks in a compromising position though. This is my '09 and I missed the crossover below the pond dam. Was in a hurry chasing down a pack of coyotes. I actually backed out of this. It was a sloppy mess after lots of rain.

HATCHING/INCUBATION
PRUrbanFarmer broody momma chicks were due 13th did you add more eggs, and will this be staggered for her? @PRUrbanFarmer Day 25 1/17 and our first light Sussex hatched under mama hen early this morning in her nesting box and another is starting to pip
Fire BCM couple dozen in there from our laying pen that will be mixed, hatching thurs-fri 1/15. other sets? Making bators too. Just cleared the hatcher of 22-23 dry babies. Lots of wet ones (about same amount) left in there and 7 or 8 more pipped. Looks like it's shaping up to be another 90%+ hatch again. A couple dozen BCM's and about 3 dozen out of our free range layer pen.

So out of those 10 remaining, 7 are developing nicely

They're on day 7. I ended up receiving 16 shipped from GA, they looked good considering the single digit temps- only 3 saddles and none cracked. They're on day 3 today, will candle Wednesday maybe.

Canadachickens @canadachickens 1/17 3 OE's out in the hatcher , one OE, bottom right, mal posed but still trying to zip, and the other 2 OE's pretty quiet.
The rest of the eggs are test batch from a new Roo, due later this week. Bunch of barnyard mix, just for the heck of it.Update on my OE's - four little fluffy butts in the brooder, the malpoed one eventually figured it out The other two were DIS. Late quitters, looked fine other wise bakers dozen barnyard mixers from a new Auracuana roo and my Columbian rocks in the bator due later this week Sixteen more silkies will fall into the bator tomorrow.
Venymae Rooster was shooting blanks. 5/7 clear and the other 2 are very questionable looking. Plus the two that are questionable are the ones that won't turn. I think I'm going to try and return this Brinsea. It's just not worth the $$. It holds temp great, and looks awesome,but it's got to be perfect for how much it costs and it's not doing it for me. @venymae
Jessimom I had 6 of the 9 eggs in lock down hatch. 2 were fully grown, but dead in the shell, the 3rd died much earlier. I still have 18 silkies set to hatch on the 22nd. The 12 Salmon Faverolle eggs and 11 Cochin eggs that were shipped 3000 miles... 6 quitters, only 12 went into lock down 1/20....plus my air cells are too small on several of them. Worst hatch yet.

. However, all frizzles and lavender Orpingtons were intact. Vital Farms eggs I got at Target, along with some silkies from our new friend from down the road, @Jessimom ... We are setting tomorrow for a Feb. 6th hatch day.

JennyBchickadee found 1 egg that i figured mudt have been la8d on top of the broody about a week or so after she started sitting? Well, its hatching right now!! I have an incubator from the 50s that is not very even tempered so i figured it wouldnt hatch but its halfway zipped....looks like I may end up with ONE pet chick....oh man, here we go again. Fire Ant Farm two tandem hatches, setting this week and next week - my first time (guess I don't know the meaning of moderation!!!!). I originally was just going to do some Naked Neck aloha hatching eggs (to arrive next week), but my beloved hero rooster Dumbledore from my little Cream Legbar family was attacked by several terrier dogs while protecting the rest of the chickens (such a little super hero!). He survived and will likely make a full recovery, though he has been plucked halfway to dinner and has wounds that need healing indoors. But I decided to try to set his girls' eggs earlier than planned/ASAP, just in case. So I have one incubator up and to temp (Brinsea Octagon), and the second one will be set up tonight (R-Com 20).

Crested barred rocks above 1st gen come from these GODZILLA eggs and lay blue/green eggs = pullet eggs below..... they get greener as they age project is getting a pretty unique bird, Jumbo COLORED layer eggs hens llay as well as leghorns, fast growing Roos for meaties, 1st generation is sexable at hatch = Dual purpose with extras for the ladies....
