INCUBATING w/FRIENDS! w/Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs No problem!

Morning everyone!

Just wanted to report on my shipped eggs. When I candled the first time, I was stupid and didn't candle upright, and also didn't mark the air cell. This morning is 36 hours after setting (after about 24-30 hours sitting upright at room temp). So I needed to candle today to mark the saddles (so I would know how to turn).

Good news is that the ENORMOUS saddles have all resolved more or less into much smaller air cells at the top, with very small saddle dips. Bad news is that, as you might expect, there's still a bit of jiggling (now in ALL of them) as the new smaller configuration of the air cell is not solid. So, I marked as well as I could, gently (there is still an outline of the old boundaries of the air cell - impressive how much it's resolved, but makes it hard to mark if inexperienced like me. Brighter flashlight is on order...), put them all back in, and am not turning ANY of them for now. Looking back at shipped egg guidance - should I try gentle turning after 24 hours or wait even longer in hopes of additional reattachment?

let them go another 24 and very gentle. it sounds as though they are mostly just jiggly do the side to side hand tilt very easy like

Good morning everyone!
Just playing catch up again while I wait for the garage to warm up so I can continue work on my cabinet bator today! :ya

We had a very balmy (for February) 37f here yesterday, so bator got put on hold for a ton of other things to get done in the mild weather, mostly chores, but the bonfire and beverages to end the day was perfect!

I will take pics and post them later of progress. Have a great day everyone! :frow

I don't have sourdough starter, but the picture of the pancakes made me hungry... pancakes for breakfast then...

Add that to a nice coffee -- and today will be a great day

I've averaged 10.666 per day this year. Yesterday was the poorest production day with only 7 eggs. I hunted around in bedding for more eggs.
On January 1st and 7th I got 17 eggs.
Through the first 30 days, I have 320 eggs.
So far, I'm sticking with my New Year's resolution of keeping up on my production spreadsheet. It also keeps track of high and low temps.
Now that the weather is milder, production is down. They were laying very well when it stayed below freezing.
My humidity is steady at 32...... That OK for now, or should I lower it slightly?
I'm flying blind on the humidity until I can do day 7 candle & see how much weight loss there is, but I don't want it to be too high.
Get a small gram scale and you won't have to candle or worry about a hygrometer.

"civil"? Never heard that word in conjunction with sunlight/sunset. What's it mean?

Civil twilight is when the sun is 6o below the horizon. That's when the sky is still fairly light.
Nautical twilight is with the sun 12° below the horizon. That's when sailors at sea can take star readings and use the horizon as reference.
Astronomical twilight is sun 18° below. Most casual observers would call that full night.

Cool. Yes, no rolling, and original rolling ones all now partially attached (though the one with bubbles was indistinct, so who knows on that one), jiggling to greater or lesser degrees in all the rest.

I realized that with the Brinsea Octagon, the turning in the cradle is MUCH gentler than anything I could ever do with my hands (having watched it empty for a week before setting, including turning). It turns VERY VERY slowly and gently over the span of an hour (only way you can tell it's turning is to go away for 30 minutes then come back and note a different angle). So I think I will do that - starting tomorrow morning. (Unless you think that would be really bad?)

Finally got around to cleaning out the snake tanks from our month long vacation. Absolutely disgusting, water and snake poo everywhere.

I start work again tomorrow with the chicken farmer's stand and my cleaning job. I'll be on in the afternoons most likely. Today though is cleaning the house so when I get home from spending 6+ hours packing meat in a refrigerator I don't have anything I have to do.

I have a calendar on the wall in the kitchen, and I just write on the calendar each day how many eggs I got. Easier to remember than putting on a spreadsheet (for me) - I can enter the data or count later if I want to look at stats... I also mark other things on there (weather/freezes, predator attack, etc.), so there's that correlation that can be made if needed.

Just what works for me...

Thinking of getting a smaller incubator for 7-10 eggs, as in the LG after first attempt decided wasn't gonna fill it again and have been doing smaller hatches. I am not a builder type person as dad told me no touching the tools after took moms carpet shampooer apart and fixed it but then couldn't get it back together or tell him how I got it apart lol.

was interesting yesterday we have 9 hens laying and had gathered eggs last night just as they were perching for the night and when went out to gather there were 12 eggs in there

Good morning @Sally Sunshine ...and friends! Two questions;
1. Are you able
To zoom in and see the AC here? It
Is Day 14. How do you think they look?
2. With so many compromised AC, I'm not planning on going over 65% at lockdown. I how do I set these bad AC eggs- AC facing up, right? Thank you!!! Shellee

I cant say for sure because I would need to see side view on air cells too, its really hard to judge via images like this. upright hatch
