@HeatherMarieR
, how are your Muscovy eggs doing? Sorry if you already posted, haven't had a chance to read 500 posts yet.

I just put them into lockdown, and 3 or 4 appeared to already be internally pipped. It's only day 30 so I was surprised. Do they tend to have trouble pipping externally on their own, or should they be fine to pip?

Hi Sally! :frow

Here's my bator of rocks:

400

And here's my setup:

400

So now everyone in your house can see how to keep temps stable in the LG. that giant mess is NOT just for looks. It's very important in keeping the bator insulated and out of drafts. :D

Concrete filled styrofoam blocks? What insulation rating? Wired and plumbed inside blocks or on a wall facade inside?
The blocks are called Perform wall. Yes, filled with concrete. It is very insulating. I don't know the absolute value, but I would think over R-60. There may be some heat loss at the top of wall where it's mostly concrete. Electrical conduit is run under the slab when possible. Otherwise, like the plumbing, channels can be carved in the 3" foam skin on either side of the blocks. Also there's a 6" square of foam every 15" on center that can be easily drilled or carved out to accommodate pipes and boxes.
I can take some different pictures of the construction if you want...

Realy beutiful! Is it Adoby constryction?
Styrofoam and concrete. It is sprayed later with a concrete color coating.

I was intrigue about an issue consudering humidiy in incubation.
In Thailand and Vietnam the relative humidity is 75% in avarage with spics of 90%! 24/365! How can chickens and outer bird incubate normaly?
I see birds fluffing up and fanning their eggs when it's too hot. I have parrots outside that are sometimes on eggs when the temperature is well over 100 F. Maybe they can get enough airflow over the eggs by doing the same thing when the humidity is high?

lol your silly, I should sew again but cant get myself to do it after so many years of sewing commercial lumbar support belts and Amish bonnets for the locals to sell, yea I am not Amish but I made them for all these places close by

This is actually pretty cheaply genius but not as a incubator.....
BUT for quick simple clean brooders.....
is this stryo healthy air wise?????
My incubator is made out of the same stuff. I haven't had any issues with it. I had a large piece leftover from a job so I made an incubator out of it. It's strong and doesn't crumble but I don't think I would use it as a brooder unless it was lined with some sort of facing that was chicken peck resistant. Day olds can not break it but older birds could. I did face around the bulbs with foil tape to reflect radiant heat and keep the styro from melting(I doubt it would without it but just in case). As far as toxicity goes, I'm not sure on this stuff but I know it does NOT soak in moisture. overall I'm not very happy with the performance as far as heat retention goes but I used 1" thick with an r-value of 5. I want to make a coolerbator. Just my thoughts on it...
