that gif didnt do any justice if I stepped on no copperhead
Had a guy rooming with us who liked to go hiking barefoot in the watershed near Thurmont with his Eskimo pup. Came home one day with a Timber Rattler that he'd caught after his dog had run over it, literally. How neither of them got bit is beyond me.

Snake stories! This is the large rattle snake that my peacocks killed a month ago. Snake didn't stand a chance. He tried to get away from the peacocks and started going into the Guinea pen! Big mistake. The peacocks stomped his body flat and the Guineas pecked his head. I actually kind of felt sorry for him, although I kill rattle snakes as well.. Just too deadly to tolerate around kids and animals.
Wanna add some of those pea eggs in with the guineas this Spring??? :gig

although there are fields around and the climate is hot I have never seen any snake near the house. but there are 10000 species of spiders! some of them jump like fleas, lol.

I think I love peacocks and guineas!

We used to leave small doggie door usable so our pair of Jack's could come and go as they pleased. Well, great idea in theory. It's been permanently closed for several years. We've have snakes, rats, possums, etc brought into the house so they could show off their prizes. And yes, he's a mousing fool. Those Jacks can mouse.

True story, my wife wasn't feeling well one day and was laying on the couch all snuggled in watching some TV. That was, until Gator bailed up in the middle of her with about a 4' bull snake. I think that was the final straw on the doggie door. LMAO

and everyone got out alive?

Yeah, the birds actually kill a lot of snakes and I've never had a bird get hurt by a rattlesnake. One peacock had a sticky foot that I noticed because little feathers were sticking to it, so I think he had some venom on him, but no bites. I was having trouble with king snakes eating too many eggs and too many quail. I like the king snakes normally cuz they keep the rattlesnakes back. So I relocated a couple of these kingsnakes and the very next day we had three rattlesnakes in three different pens!

There is a horse stable here that was having a major mouse problem. They kept a bunch of cats to keep the mice down. One day somebody brought in her Jack Russell. That little dog tore through the hay stack and killed mice non-stop all day. Totally put the cats to shame.

I'm not a fan of cats. (Guess I've never had one cooked right. LOL). Therefore, I don't keep any around.
