Been out and done feeding chores. Put down a BCM pullet while I was out and about. Mama and Brit are at the airport putting 3 pups on a plane headed for their new homes. They did the same drill yesterday but with 5 pups. We are getting close to our new girl shipping from Germany. Oh, and the Loki/Faith breeding is a confirmed pregnancy, pups due April 6th. This is the 100% A.I. breeding I posted about.
what was wrong with the pullet? CONGRATS on the PREGO!!! good for you fire!!

Good morning Sally. Busy weekend. Termites, pool filter, coops, and move more dirt for neighbors.
oh and Valentine's Day Order to above list is subject to discretion on my part of course.
Morning Peter!!!

ohhhh VDay! pool filter!!! Termites!!! eeeee gadsss

And,should I separate the serama from the ee
NO they will be fine all together, no need for two brooders, I always keep my serama in with even my godzilla egg chicks!! they will be fine! Use papertowels over the shavings the first few days in the brooder mostly BECAUSE of the TINY SERAMA chicks!

PEEP!!! morning sweets!

Well we had a traumatizing morning. My niece spent the night with us and woke up early to go check on the chicks and one hadn't made it. A lot of tears this morning.
One a better note there is this one

Yes, is safe but for at least the first few days, I'd use paper towels until they get strength in their legs and good footing before switching to shavings. I keep mine on towels for their first week.
@chicken hawk 33 This is how I do it. To make it easier, when setting up, I put down pine shavings in the brooder FIRST, and then put the paper towels on top of that. I switch out or layer more paper towels on top as they make a mess. After they're all running around really well, I just remove the paper towels and viola - they're on the pine shavings! Less stressful on them than trying to add shavings while they're in there, or taking them out to add shavings. I have them on paper towels now - leaving it a wee bit longer than I normally would because I have a little boy with leg hobbles for splay leg (doing very well, BTW).

I have them in a small kiddie pool right now - need to move them to a bigger brooder today. My project today is to clear floor space in the mudroom to more easily accommodate the bigger brooder and still let me walk around the edges.

Edit: Yeah, what Sally said.

Hot date was awesome! This particular pullet has always been a runt and yesterday I noticed her just not acting right. This morning she was down and sluggish. Wife is gone so I doctored in my normal fashion given the opportunity.

Good for you fire! I would have done the same with the pullet. These were the new ones you got shipped in? How do you incubate your shipped eggs?
