Was he replacing exhaust systems often?I used to work with a gentleman that wouldn't drive his vehicle more than within a 5 mile radius of his house.
That's my problem, I usually only drive to Lowe's and the car doesn't heat up all the way by then.
I put 270,000 on my first F150 and never did any work to the engine, clutch or tranny. I sold it to a friend to tow his race car. I don't know how many miles he put on it.My '05 Dakota is wracking up the miles, too; rolled by 58,000 a couple weeks ago.
That's the way to do it.Usually when the get to the point of needing more money dumped into them than they are worth and I can't do the work I will sell them to the scrap yard and go buy another one. My last three vehicles I've paid a grand total of about $2,000 for including my current one. Drove the first two for a little over a yr a piece and am on yr 2 with my current ride. Add in that I've probably gotten back about 25% of my money in scrap value and that ain't to bad a return.
I was in a mode for quite a while of buying the cheapest thing I could and drive it till it quit. (I think I'm in that mode again) I bought a '73 Mercury Capri for $300. Everything worked on it but after 18 months, I got tired of it not dying and I wanted a change so I sold it for $500.
My son bought a '85 BMW E28 (528E) for $500. The DPO did all the regular maintenance but none of the big stuff. We ended up replacing virtually everything under the car. They are surprisingly easy to work on. He drove it for 2 years and sold it for $500 but we had a lot of money in parts.
