oh and its not the normal knocking sound of a blown or bent piston.. it is super loud like a loose bolt in the engine.
Could be something simple, like a bolt that backed out of the starter; I've had that happen. If the starter's only held on by two bolts & one of them backs out, the other one may be loose enough for the starter bendix to not engage the flywheel properly, resulting in the kind of noise you're describing.

I plan on taking it to the shop when I get the money... the starter is under the passenger side of the the burban and I have a harder time looking there... not to mention it is like 15 pounds so I would need help. If only... you guys lived closer.
