Congrats on the MPC hatching eggs @jwlpoultry @LocalYokel Since I've nothing hatching in the incubator this weekend, spent part of the evening staring at broody hen #1. She was not amused. Told me off several times. I checked a few days ago and the eggs I gave her were developing nicely. Should have some little chickies early next week. Broody hen #2 decided motherhood wasn't for her and is back to running around with the rest of her flock. Lucky for me she was only sitting on fake eggs. Some of my gals are getting pretty roughed up by my giant black orpington rooster while mating and since I didn't have any reason to stayed glued to the 'bator I decided to make some chicken saddles. Ready for them to wear when I let them out in the morning. It was pretty fun, haven't used the sewing machine in ages. Probably would have made a few more but I ran out of material.

What material do you use for them? I don't know how I should stitch mine together, could you maybe post a picture of your seams?

Looks like I made it on as everyone was heading to bed. Well made it back on about 45 minutes ago but was catching up till now. Busy day tmrw. Need to move the 5 week olds out of the brooder, try to give them free ranging time with the older birds under supervision while cleaning out and setting up the grow out pen for them. Get incubator set up for ebay eggs and start collecting for the HAL. And that's just the chicken stuff. Honey Do list and daughters softball prbly need to fit in there somewhere. Hmm priorities.

Alas, I do have a pretty pushy/possessive roo with the NNs right now (Severus Snape). But I will be working my way toward this goal. I think I'd need to take vacation to be able to be around to supervise during the transition...

Hi, daxi!  I and my flicks hard a nice evening!!!       idunno )

I've made several of these waterers. The last two were made using icing buckets from the local Wal-Mart bakery. I drilled 1/4" holes for the number of nipples I wanted, then stepped up to a 3/8" drill bit. The plastic tends to ball up a little, so carefully trim it off and screw the nipples in. Don't screw them completely down, but try to get them as close as you can. I don't use any type of sealant, and I've never had one leak. It's funny... I got a package with 10 more horizontal nipples yesterday. I think I accidentally ordered more for a future project...

So lockdown update the start of day 18 ... 41 eggs set 1 egg landed on the floor (infertile) the shepherds ate that up and still go back to lick at the spot even after shampooing the carpet, 26 infertile (cracked open to look inside on day 17) ... 15 on lockdown 4 of which don't look exactly right meaning the bottom of the egg isn't totally dark so the embryo may have stopped growing... I am so excited and I just need to set up another brooder since my meat birds are in 1 brooder.

I spent the day wiring this together.
Was excited to come home tonight to attach the last wire and see the screen come on. Now to slap it all in the box.
