Just finished up the final details of my shipped eggs for the Easter HAL. I got BBS Barred Rocks, BBS Copper Marans, Sapphires, white leghorns, some darker project leghorns and paint silkies/showgirls heading my way! I will post my official numbers after the arrive!

I need some fast urgent help! I started with 9 eggs and all have died but one. I think I have killed the one I have left. It is day 24 and I could hear chirping and moving around but no pipping.
So...I read many things and they said with the egg not doing any pipping that I needed to help it along.
So...I put a small hole in the egg and I immediately saw bright red blood so I stopped. I put the egg back in incubator with wet towel.
I can see that it's still breathing but that's all now. No chirping or trying to get out of egg.
I pray that I haven't killed it.
PLEASE someone tell me what I need to do! It's my only chick and this is the first time incubating.
I'm heart broken......
We must have been posting at the same time last night I am sorry how did your chick make out. you had low temps during incubation did you calibrate? also you know humidity is not a set number just a tool for correct weight loss?

@Abzonthefarm

Questions for you!
What day is lockdown and when is est hatch day?
Not quite sure I understand are you in lockdown now?
What bator are you using?
Fan or no Fan?
You should run 30 if your air cells need to loose. yes get rid of that humidity
You are adding water to the troughs or you have little containers above to get humidity in there?
Perhaps empty all water and switch to something above with the eggs or off to the side?
You understand humidity is NOT a set number, most of us begin incubation 25-35% the first week and then adjust as needed per air cell growth/weight loss.
You are running at what temps?
You have more than one thermo hygro and they had been calibrated?
You have rotated your eggs around the bator at candles?
Have you misted or washed the eggs?
where they shipped or your own eggs/local eggs?
How old were the eggs at set?
How old is your flock?
Turner or no turner?
Incubated upright or horizontal?

Can you get pics uploaded of your marked air cells by chance?

Sally thank you SO much for getting back so quickly, I'm really grateful.

Addictive?? Hehe, tell me about it! I've turned into a crazy scientist these past few weeks!!! Ok questions as follows

The remaining eggs are all Khaki Campbell ducks, set at different stages (6th feb, 7th feb, 8th feb, 10th feb, 13th feb, 14th feb, 16th feb, 18th feb etc (right up until the 25th feb

Lockdown is this wednesday for the 1st eggs (I have bough a brinsea mini eco just for lockdown eggs so I can have the humidity up really high without affecting the younger eggs.)

Main incubator for growing eggs is a fan assisted : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321964077...49&var=510901739349&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Temp has been pretty consistent at 37.0 - 37.5 but I try to mimic the mother leaving the nest by letting them cool ever so slightly for 5-10 mins or so now and then

I did not calibrate the built in hygro i'm afraid (newbie error) I just bought two probe hydro/thermo's on eBay so will be doing so when they arrive

The eggs have all been shuffled around the bator yes

I did wash the eggs (before I found out that you're not supposed to!) But khaki campbells are very dirty birds and our land here is wet and muddy

All my own, all showing as fertile. Got great movement and growth in almost every single one.

All eggs were set at no more than 24 hours old

My flock are 1st/2nd year

I have a turner that tilts them from side to side but I have also been obsessively turning them all also

incubated upright

I hope this helps, the humidity was finally stabilised at 30% this morning when i checked so i added just a few drops (before I read your message) but I'll let it dry out a bit until lockdown

Thank you so much for taking the time

Best wishes from Rhydcymerau Wales U.K!!!

Vicky
Oh no on the calibrations and extra thermohygros! glad you caught this and ordered! Its so important! keep temps higher, dont ever run below 99.5 I actually incubate at a 100.5-101 I have found that the worst hatches are ones that dipped below 99.5 so keep it up over 99.5 but not over 101 is what I aim for. Most of us start low humidity 25-35% and then adjust as needed, you would be better not setting eggs stagger esp duck eggs where weight loss can get difficult. Some say they incubate better horizontal, I hatched fine both ways though. So as far as air cells and humidity with stagger hatches I am not sure what to tell you! you put yerself in a predicament for sure! because u cant adjust for the eggs because of the other eggs! unless you pull the ones for lockdown early in an attempt to correct air cells, and it is bad to try to correct close to lockdown.

Quote: I do lower temps at lockdown sweets its in the article and our notes. You are not rude, you ran 25% duration? you didnt adjust it as needed? never run at one set number, its all about the air cells and what they need.
LOWERING TEMPS lockdown IS NOT NECESSARY but said to AIDTHE HATCHING PROCESS post #2898

How goes things?
Not too shabby. Sitting here wondering whether to chit or wind my watch.

Actually ,contemplating on whether to dismantle the last coop I built & start over, or duplicate my main coop, which is purchased & designed pretty well but made of cheap material. Leaning heavily toward the latter, if for no other reason than everything matching.

Can ya take a chit and wind your watch at the same time or is that to much to ask for? None of my things match. Actually thats not true they all have pretty much the same paint scheme. Why would you take apart whats already done?
