I did it once....I had to carry a barf bag since I was green going up. It was a BLAST! I did not need the barf bag. I would never do it again though. Why spoil such a fun memory!!!

I used to have an awesome recipe for microwave brownies, but it got lost - I think during my divorce.... We used to make it by the bowl though.



Congratulations to everyone with zipping and hatching!! I love the photos!! But I"m still 3 pages behind!!

I picked up 4 silkies and 1 buff brahma that Shellee (gopro17) hatched for me a few days ago. I thought I gave her the eggs, but she said she was hatching them for me....lol They seem to be getting along great with my surviving blue/splash silkie and 2 surviving buff brahmas that hatched last week for me. I have 4 of my silkie eggs that are on day 20. I hope they hatch!! That's the last of the eggs I had brewing.

I now have TWO silkies that have gone broody (first time for both of them). My blue hen is sitting on 6 eggs (I think), and the white hen is just sitting on 2. Should I add more under her? IF they hatch their babies (about 5 days apart), how old do the chicks have to be before they can be re-introduced to the rest of the flock? I tried to put my 2 month old babies in the run, and the rooster attacked. The hens wanted to protect them, but the roo was angry. Will it be different for eggs hatched in the coop?

I also have 22 shipped eggs that need to be set. I think I'll split them - half in each 'bator and will see which has the best success rate. I won 2 auctions, so will be getting a couple of dozen eggs from there. Those should be here on Wednesday. On Friday I should be getting my new Brinsea. I can set the eggs in the old bator for 2 or 3 days, while I'm getting the Brinsea set up, right? Will it hurt them to change incubators early on?

My understanding is that if the chicks are born into the flock, with momma protecting them, the older birds will accept them. That's just what I've been told; I've yet to have the chance to find out.

Thanks! As much as I love animals, I figure this is something I will NOT intervene if there are issues. These are very young birds. I'm guessing their first broody period may not be successful. We'll see!!

This is true. Every flock is unique in their acceptance process. Mine, for example, will willingly accept in chicks from 6-8 weeks old. They give them a little peck to let them know where they stand in the order and then they just let them grow into the flock as if they'd always been there. Some docks will attack young ones. I'm so Thandie that mine doesn't.

Just watch them carefully for the first few days. If a baby wanders away from mama during the first three days, she will not leave the nest to bring it back and the baby can be snached up and killed by the flock. I know from experience on this one :/
