Ok I like that approach day 10 and 18 to candle.
Ok good to know and thanks for the tips. So how often do you weigh yours? That seems like something I can better do than candling and trying to determine the egg sac size. I tried that but we had Some dark eggs and green eggs, couldn't see much, plus not experienced enough to know what exactly I was looking at. I know it takes practice.
great question, I have the same one as my bator will be full as well with the same numbers.
Forget what I said about letting them rest; I missed the part where you said they'd be 6-7 days old.

I've got a hova bator and am also curious as to what is the best way to candle without severely affecting the temp in the bator. I'm currently on day 3 and was planning to candle either day 7 or 8 and then on day 18 before lockdown.

I'd love to hear others methods for candling without compromising temps in a big way...I've got 42 eggs in there

I'm not sure there is an effective way to candle that many eggs without compromising the temps.

A hen will get off the nest most days for 20 minutes to a couple hours depending on ambient temps so I equate candling/weighing sessions to that. Internal egg temperature won't drop much during that time.

Smooth roads? Never seen one around here, unless it was just opened to traffic after laying a top coat

That changes things. It's all relative. Just like other aspects of chicken keeping. Everyone's situation is different.

Our roads are relatively smooth thanks to some mild winters - except the big pot hole that is always in the middle of the road in front of my driveway. There's a spring under the road and rather than permanently fix it (route it off to the side) they would rather fill it 4+ times a year - year after year.

I've been on some gut busters right here in the Ozarks that would scramble a dozen eggs.

Yes the road I live on hasn't been paved in over 16 years there is a few big pot holes u have to swerve around feels like a roller coaster swerving from side to side so u don't hit the pot holes it's funny my dog falls over when we do that and steps on my sister my dog is a cluts
The best drivers I've ever seen are in Jamaica. At high speeds they can miss every pothole. More importantly, they do so while missing the oncoming drivers swerving to miss potholes. You just have to ride along, close your eyes and pray.
If they didn't drive so well, they'd spend all their profits for car repairs.
Biggest after market auto industry in Costa Rica is suspension repairs.

Well it's day 21 and no pips yet should I be worried my last hatch they were hatching on day 19-20 and finishing on day 21
Patience. If it's a problem, it's too late to do anything about it now.

It isn't rocket science but I usually weigh about day 5 and 10 as long as they're close to ideal at those intervals. If you wait too long you could have already lost too much or not enough water to make it difficult to sufficiently correct.

I mean they are still moving but I am trying not to Raven open the incubator because I still have to turn the other eggs
If there's the chance they're pipping now, I wouldn't open it. I'd rather go an extra day or so without turning than chance a shrink wrapped chick.

They posted the age after your advice.

How about doing 10 or 20 at a time. I usually do a dozen at a time, keeping the rest warm.

This thread moves so fast.

Too fast for me. It used to be worse.
