He indeed does have the Congestive Heart failure and has lived already over twice as long as they gave him. He's stubborned like that tho!

Pops has been discharged. They got all the fluid out of his cavity and lungs. They refilled all his meds and gave him some other meds for the Pneumonia he still has.

He's very tired and is on his way home now.
So glad to hear it! Keep us posted...we care.

Did you have a double yolker and one was early DIS????   @rossfam06

:yuckyuck

dang out of ovates   darnnnnnnittt!!!

Hey lg!!!

Walnut seems to think so. I had no idea it was a double yolker. :/ I have eggs that are moving and Shaking that are nearly double that size!

@Sally Sunshine
Does thisun need to come out of the bator?
400

If that is seeping....then yes!

Well, I have 8 babies hatched out of 14 eggs yesterday. Very happy. I was sure that I had 10 chicks last night but guess they left the nest and got devoured or trampled by the larger ones, or I miscounted. It was probably the second one. I divided them evenly between the two broody mothers that hatched them out. I am having problems with one mother not waiting for them and not letting the little ones warm up that much. They are in an enclosed pen about 2x3 feet. If that hen does not change soon then the other one will get all of them....

I am thinking that this is the same hen that lost her babies in August last year due to not letting them under her. I will leg band her if I do switch give the chicks to the other hen..
congrats on the babies!!!

Quote: ancona day 28 these look like small eggs, two more external pips I see..... Day 23 They probably wont arrive until day 25-26 for some reason I never have ducks hatch within a 12 hour span like I can do chicken eggs, seems their air cells get all over the place. But these eggs were washed so I may have washed more cuticle off some than the others so who knows.... but if they are pipping I aint gonna complain to them unless they get out with bad navels and I havent had that yet, knock wood!!! temps the same as the last batches of eggs that hatched, same bator and humidity so time will tell!!! wish them luck!!! remember ducks take so much longer after internal pips, to external and then zipping its a much longer process for them than chickens!! and geese I assume even longer yet!! good luck!!

awwwww I hope he continues to improve and knocks that out of him fast!!!

Help!
My muscovy eggs- no idea when they were "supposed" to be due thanks to the hatchabatch app. I thought last monday. Well. The eggs I marked are wriggling today. I made a small hole in an internally pipped egg to see if it had shrink wrapped. - big nope. So i rushed it back under the empty broody and she rearranged and broke shell. I pulled those pieces off because I feared the pieces would puncture the duckling. It has NO veins, and can move around and peep, but yolk is definitely not up to date with the guy. It's not a whole lot, but it's enough that it needs another day. I can't bring it in. No inch here. I'm lost. I am wrapping it in a paper fowl and hoping for the best and prayers? Advice? I left all the other eggs around. I feel like a bad person. Im so darn used to chicken eggs. No veins in chicken egg = no yolk/ready to hatch.

so you dont have a bator? you will have to use a light bulb and try to keep its temp 99 and on damp warm rag.

After haphazardly piecing the refrigerbator together, I realized I had forgotten one tiny detail... how to control the egg turners. I thought I was going to have to bite the bullet and purchase an IncuStat Advanced thermostat, and figured I may as well get the 125W heater to go with it... and basically scrap the current design. By the time I added two Hovabator 1611's, the price tag in my Incubator Warehous carti(including shipping) was $258. A tiny voice in my head told me to pick up the phone and call IW to see if the IncuStat would have no trouble operating two 1611 egg turners, and the knowledgeable representative (Evan) informed me that the 1611 turner motors were 110V AC. Since I haven't seen any documentation (power wise) for the 161, I assumed they were 12V DC. Evan proceeded to inform me that the motors on the 1611's are designed for continuous use, and since they have such slow RPM, they will make a full revolution once every 4 hours. Since they require no controller, and only cost me $110.51... I can't ask for anything more!!!

I wish the refrigerbator had been a little over 15" front to rear instead of of 14 1/2". I'll have to remove the end trays (losing 14 slots) so they'll fit, but I think a 70 egg capacity will suit my needs for the time being...

Since my goal is to eventually do staggered hatches, I'll need to start work on a separate hatcher soon. Do these project ever end???

NO

@Sally Sunshine
Hey sweets!!!

Lol guy didn't make it. I burrow him. I have an incy. Just not at this house and we don't have time to raise one alone. I blame myself for trying to intervene when it wasn't necessary. :( I just didnt know when they were due.
Man. :(
I remember reading that it's best to use one to make sure the rest are okay than to lose them all. It gives me assurance. I'm not touching those babies again. I should let nature be nature :(

oh and ducks are in lockdown in the other cooler.
I have at least four dozen serama and sapphires that need to be set yet

Hey Sally, back at ya. I'm getting closer to set date. Hoping for next weekend. Anticipating mixed shipments from 2 special BYC ladies. I have one gal in the coop who's thinking about being broody. Egg count up to 17 today. Saving all the eggs for a few days, so if that gal does go broody, I can give her a gender selected clutch to work on. Have all the components for my coolerbator. (Except that I put my ceramic bulb fixtures in such a special spot that I can't find them, but found a spare, so still have to buy one more.) If all goes well, I anticipate setting about 3 dozen eggs. Still looking for some duck eggs to go into the mix. Building plans delayed a bit by sudden surprise laser surgery! (I never saw that coming!)

there are some good reads HERE https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/incubating-w-friends-helpful-notes-links-informational-post-links SEE THE CANDLING SECTION as WELL AS THE LOCKDOWN procedure as it shows images and videos of candles and what they should look like during specific parts of the hatch.
