You can probably leave it in full-term if you want; just make sure it doesn't start stinking. I left one in 'til day 24 & nothing happened12, 1 is clear but I'm giving it until day 14.

I'll keep a lookout, but you'll probably see everything I'll see, or moreI am working on a painting, (so far, so good) and trying to find a picture I like for colored pencil.
Which reminds me.....If anyone has large, clear chicken pics they might let me use, let me know!![]()
Very much so!![]()

You're good with a camera, why not just shoot one of your own birds?I'll keep a lookout, but you'll probably see everything I'll see, or more
It just wanted some privacy. I'll never forget my first hatch about a month ago. Went to bed with two wet chicks in the 'bator and one zipping, woke up to nine chicks running all over the thing. I think the were waiting until I turned out the lights...I was going to try to get pictures as my one egg progressed, but it didn't do much last night or early this morning, so I didn't bother taking more pictures, though I did check several times to see if it was still alive, and of course it was. Had to run to the vet this morning, and guess what? That silly little chick finished zipping in the two hours I was gone! Will post pictures of the lone chick later.![]()

Quote: I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with this. But I'll offer two "bright sides" (if it's not too obnoxious of me to do so - if it is, just scroll past!).![]()
(1) It's great that you are having this treated NOW, rather than when you are older. Not the same thing, but I never had the opportunity to have braces on my teeth as a child, and had a really badly misaligned bite - VERY bad, had a hard time chewing food and got a lot of headaches. When I was an adult with insurance and resources, I looked into fixing it (it was causing major problems), and at least two folks said that if it were addressed when I was a child, it would have been easy, but that now I needed major surgery, splitting my palate, cutting out pieces of my jaw - Yikes! I was fortunate to find and excellent dentist who could fix it without surgery (over a period of a number of years, with visits every 2 weeks), but I realize that was very fortunate. When you are young, your body is more "trainable" with braces, etc.
And (2) I will not make light of how hard this could end up being for you among your peers (I was pretty severely bullied as a child, so I never would make light of that), but from your posts, you strike me as an intelligent and strong young woman. I have no doubt that you will handle this with strength and grace.
Thinking of you through this...
Quote: I put those foam strip thingies that cam e with it into the center of the rails, set the rails equidistant for four rows, and the eggs then snug in just fine (normal sized chicken eggs). Occasional slight shift if one egg is a little smaller, but certainly no falling about - I think in part because it turns so slowly. The thermo/hygro I have in there I had to wedge in one of the empty rows with a folded paper towel...
Quote: I have the Octagon 20 Advance and happen to think it's great, but some of them do NOT come correctly calibrated - they hold temp and humidity great, just the WRONG temp and humidity!!! I am convinced that I lost 3-4 eggs from my last hatch because (as I found out later) my temp was 1 degree to low (those that did hatch did so on days 23-24) and, more importantly, humidity was 10% lower than the reading. I have heard of others that were much more off in temps. Soooooooo.... perhaps his isn't calibrated?
Yeah, on one hand, getting up in the morning these past few days has felt like trying to crawl out of the grave, but on the other hand, I've been able to get more work done on the tractor coops in the evenings...Just getting in the house. Get lotsa work done after this god forsaken time change. Hate the winter change. Wife said she can tell the time change is in effect. She said the Bud Light consumption has gone up. LOL. Wow, only been 3 days.
Welcome!!!!Hi, My name is Julie and i think I better join this thread.
Just started my first hatch and already feel overwhelmed.
My husband talked me into filling the water reservoir and now my humidity is too high.
Is lower humidity better the first 2 weeks.
You all seem so nice. Glad to be here.Yes, humidity should start low-ish at first (maybe 30-40% depending on the type eggs you're incubating), but then when you candle at day 7, mark the air cells with a pencil, and see if they seem to be the right size, too big, or too small, and adjust accordingly. (Different types of eggs may lose more or less moisture). As Sally says - humidity is not a number, it's a tool to get your air cells to develop to the correct size. I'd read everything in Hatching 101 and Sally's other links on this. Very helpful info.![]()

You know, I continue to be stunned with how gorgeous I find your birds. I need some. After this crazy year is over, I may approach you for hatching eggs if available. How large are your hens and roosters? How dod they do in the heat where you are? (Did you start with Greenfire? I forget...)
This cake does NOT have enough frosting!!!!!!!!![]()
All the core lumber for tractor #2 is prepped now (got the last of it sealed after work today). Will put together the frame tomorrow after work (thank you, Daylight Savings Time!) and try it get the other little fussy bits done as soon as possible after that. Those CL babies REALLY need to head outside...
