Nice....sweet coffee pot!!! Can I have a cup?
Do you really drink that much coffee?
CH....you have more crisis than anyone I've ever met
I had to retire last fall....decades of poor health and turning wrenches all day left my body and mess...left me dependent on pain meds...everyone thought when I'd retire if be sitting in my chair all crippled up.....what actually happened is that I'm busier now than I was. I used to come home from work and collapse...now it takes me longer to get started but I go till dark.
Which is why I don't get a lot of time to post here.
HAPPY EASTER.....

Yes, I really drink that much coffee.

Good Easter Morning everyone! After almost 2 years since having my last chickens due to an unexpected move, I am finally getting back to it. I got my eggs yesterday from a local-ish breeder (actually drove a few hours away, but that's still better than shipping, right?) and put them into my Brinsea this morning. The only issue is that I actually have a few too many for the auto-turner to do it's job and the extra incubator I ordered won't arrive until Tuesday (huge shipping snafu. The one they shipped last week was broken and I had to get a new one shipped). I've never turned eggs by hand before, but figure I can do that for a few days so they'll be hatching on the weekend when my nephew can be here to watch (he's VERY excited). Soooo... how much should I turn them (angle)? The Brinsea turns the eggs between 90 and 120 degrees each time. Is that what I should mimic by hand? Or should I turn them the full 180? Is it ok to have them stand on end (pointy end down of course)? Sorry for the dumb questions. I'm not new to hatching, but I've always been able to let the Brinsea do all the work before.

Sounds like you'll be enjoying a very nice meal later! I was going to fix a ham but I decided to go with something a little different this year. Still staying with pork but I'm going more "southern style" fixing homemade BBQ pulled pork, steak fries and corn on the cob. ...and German chocolate cake for dessert.

I did Prime Rib yesterday....Will be taking the left overs and making a beef vegetable soup....yes it's an expensive soup but prime rib soup is freaking awesome.

I'm a daddy

:thumbsup

Yes, I really drink that much coffee.

That's not real good for you....but when me and my wife were younger we had one of those catering size 40 cup makers and we easily emptied that....of course we had both quit drinking and just replaced alcohol with caffeine...

I'm, worried the bantam is moving in the egg.but not making any noise at all
Why does it have to make noise?
If it moves, it's alive. Nothing to worry about. And if there were something to worry about, it's too late to do anything about it.
The time to worry is early on keeping the temperature and humidity correct. Also keeping the incubator closed and keeping your hands out of it. After that just let nature take it's course.
Set it and forget it. No wonder you don't have time to have a job.

One comment if I may, the pinial gland is responsible to the circadian ritmus, the day light signal that after some processing arive to the Hypotalmus is responsible to the producing of 2 hormons ( Gonadotropin's) FSH-GnRh and LH-GnRH that arive through a portal system to the Adenohypopisis that in turn produce FSH - follicle Stimulating Hormone that is responsible for the follicle maturation, and LH - leuctogenic Hormon that is the main reason of Ovulation, that in mammals, I think - (don't Know! )if it is the same in birds!

That's helpful. I try to keep it as simple as possible. They are Continuing Education classes so too much detail isn't warranted.
On the subject of light, I might add a few things. In addition to the day vs. night thing stimulating production, chickens don't have to see the light. Blind chickens can also detect a change in day length. Light penetrating the skull is still detected by the pineal gland.

Hi everyone, I'm hoping to start filling my incubator tomorrow night, but I have some questions that maybe you experienced hatchers can help with. So, I know that it is recommended to get the incubator good and steady for 48 hours prior to adding eggs, but how steady are we talking? I have a round metal bator with a wafer thermostat (new wafer added this month) and a computer fan added and my temps are ranging 99.3-100.8, but mostly 99.9. Is this good? I need to not tweak with it, right? When it gets to 100.8 I get nervous!
Thanks!
Leave it alone. A wafer is either on or off. Sending power to the heat element or not. The temp will rise till the wafer opens. Then it will cool a bit before it closes again. For that reason, it's impossible for it to remain a steady temperature.
The internal egg temperature will be more steady.

HELP ASAP, I can't go outside to help.but I went out to let the chickens out and the bantam chick is stuck.

IMO, you mess with the incubator too much.

Happy Easter everybody. It has been so nice here and with the time change, working until 9-10 pm every day. So needless to say, haven't been on too much. All this beautiful weather and then we wake up to 4" of snow this morning. Right now I'll take any moisture I can get but would have rather had a nice soaking 1 or 2 inch rain. Was planning on working most of the day until the family comes over later this afternoon but I think I'm quite content to feed and call it a day.

Hope everybody has a great Easter Day.
The weather has been nothing short of amazing the last month. I pray we don't get an April freeze. The blossoms have fallen off most of the fruit trees already.

He needs to relax. Too much drama.

Good morning Fire. Happy Easter we're seeing family as well.

I think you wanted to know the outcome of grafting with the clippers that cut the graft into a form fitting cut. Out of 10 or so grafts it looks like 5 starts. I wasn't as careful with them as I have been in the past so partly my fault.

I decided on a two-person meal of a small homemade honey-glazed ham, mashed potatoes (with a single egg cracked into it for creaminess), a spring salad, braided bread with mead substituted for the water, and potentially creme brulee with strawberries for dessert.
