COCHINS or BRAHMAS

Which do you guys recommend? I have a choice to either get one or the other. Which lay more? Which one lays bigger eggs? Let me know which you guys would choose.

finally not a great thing to do....but neither is picking up dead ducks you raised from lings.....it didn't even try and eat then just killed for sport
Yeah, when the skunks killed my 50 chickens, they were all ones I raised and I hatched most of them. They didn't even eat them just locked on to their backs behind the wings and drank their blood. I was sobbing scooping up their bodies when my son found me and sent me back inside. Later when I came out after passing out for a few hours, I was examining them as there was no blood but I finally found the wet spot with 4 canine marks. As I checked each one, I found the same mark. They went into a killing frenzy and just slaughtered my birds.

I didn't know what caused it till I caught the first one and put a bullet through it. It's mate got a bullet the next night. They weren't going to stop. And as I put the trap on top of the original hole after I filled it up, it went quite willing into it to get one of my dead birds I baited it with. When I found it the next day it wasn't even bothered by me and continued eating. I took the trap out in the woods and put it down. I didn't hate the animal but after the carnage and death it caused in one night, I had no compassion for it either.

This is what happened to most of all the babies I hatched last Spring and Summer.

Fresh caught?

Yeah...unfortunately not by Mr...I've been trying to post pics for a few days internet is slow....it renews tomorrow..I'm gonna hit the rivers for a free tomorrow when I go to town for a trip....

I hope you get to feeling better!
I  have had an interesting week... So i had a hen go broody awhile ago and shortly after i had two more hens go broody... They all three decided to use the same nesting box....

I really need to seas a specialist and figure out what is irritating my lungs...but VA is a little slow....I'm gonna try and push them again.

Works every time.

It's fast too!

Mink or weasel. But normally they'll kill every bird in an enclosure.

Drink their blood....the small ones like eating eggs...

Both good candidates, specially since the guy up the road raised mink for years (but hasn't for years) and turned them loose when the bottom fell out of the hide business.

That couldn't have been legal...?

That's why we trapped that Fisher this fall...didn't want to lose any DUCKS

As a rule, Brahmas lay about 140 a year, Cochins a little less.
Cochins eggs are a little bigger, in the large category. Brahmas are medium to large.
Both are setters but Cochins are more prone to be broody.
Both are good in cold climates, calm, docile and friendly.
Brahmas are bigger. I like them both but probably will never have them again. Not enough eggs and too slow and friendly for predators in my book.

A little more for comparison here.

That was silly.
Most cage mink can't survive out in the wild but probably some did.

I saw one in the woods while deer hunting many, many years later, but have never seen another.

You know you love chickens when....
You bring your lonely injured guy into the living room so that he can hear voices. I'm cheeping to him too. His wound has scabbed up good and he's eating a drinking. Still scratching a bit but now that it's scabbed up it looks okay, hopefully he won't scratch the scab off.

I guess I am not the only crazy chicken lady. Lol

I have had a sick chicken in my living room and an injured goose living in my bath tub!
