Good morning to all. Hope all have a good day.
Wanted to post about the extremely large odd shaped egg I had.
700

It was a double yolker - twins. Both yolks were fertilized. Next time I will post on thread and see if anyone wants to take and hatch twins. :)

I was letting the dog out this morning, and opening up pop door. The dog went off somewhere, so I waited in the sunroom. I walked back outside, and towards the driveway to see if I could figure out where he went. After about five minutes I went back to the house. They are he was, waiting for me. Stupid dog! LOL

imlovinmyskin Kathy On day 22 of hatch #2 of welsummer eggs. Started with 23, had 8 viable eggs at lockdown. Had 3 moving at candle on day 21 but as of this am (now day 22) still no pips. I think my humidity was too high, air cells seem small On day 11 of hatch #3 due 4/8.. Started candeling on day 10 to hopefully get a handle on my humidity issue. Hatch 3 has 14 welsummer eggs in turner. Hatch 3 is neighors hatch with a different Roo. Wondering if my Roo has a genetic disorder since first hatch was a complete dud..and it looks like 2nd hatch might be too. 4th hatch (due 4/18) went in Turner yesterday ... Will candle in day 7 to chk air cell and make necessary adjustments I will have a successful hatch!! @imlovinmyskin hows it going?

How to Send a Bird for a Necropsy post #81844

The way I always take Kathy's advice is that IF I want to proceed to treat/save a bird, this or that is what I should do. Whether I actually make the attempt, and whether I discontinue efforts along the way and/or cull, is always up to me. Culling is something I've been thinking about since the very second I discovered this little chick sick. I decided to take a shot at making it better (as it started life and its first week 100% normal, vs. an abnormal chick from a hatch gone wrong) - and in the process I am learning more than I knew before.

He was pretty miserable before, but seems to be feeling a bit better now that he's getting fed and treated. Even if he doesn't make it, or if I decide to cull later (which I definitely will if the legs don't start working again), it will ease my mind and heart to have tried to make him more comfortable along the way...

I have an acquaintance chicken person locally here who has seen with her own eyes (video) a raccoon go get a key from its hiding place and unlock a keyed padlock to get into a coop.
ep.gif

All my coop doors/openings have little mini combination locks on them. Raccoons are evil AND smart!

So sorry you're having to go through all that, but glad you're getting checked out.
hugs.gif

Holy cannoli!!!!! That is AMAZING!!!!!!! You are my HERO!!!!!!!
bow.gif
Remind me again what these structures will be? Is this a house, or something else? (I can't remember...)

I got all the mowing done (which was a LOT), all the chicken chores done, and all chickens and chickees got scrambled eggs as a treat today. First time, so there was an amusing period of "Is it POISON?", followed by total gluttony. I think next time it'll just be the gluttony.

Got two of the blackberry holes dug, but then ran out of light. But the good news is that it's good black soil down to the bottom of the holes in that part of the yard (rocks and limestone slab on the other side) - good for these blackberry bushes, and good to know generally - I think this will be a good location for my small orchard (plan to plant the trees this fall).

I feel a lot better than I did earlier. I think it's a combination of rest, stretching/activity, and possibly getting over whatever illness I might have been fighting. Not perfect, but it's a relief to have a bit more energy to get things done.

Ok, I'm starting to doze off mid-post, so that's a sing I should go to bed. Good night, everyone!!!

That reminds me, do you understand enough English to know not to say to a woman ordering a funeral arrangement, "Calm down, ma'am! Just calm down!" several times throughout a 3-minute conversation? I wasn't even breathing! The guy did not speak very clear English, so I am fairly sure that he just didn't realize that he was being unkind in his choice of words as well as his deliverance/timing.

Yeah, it is taking awhile. Work occasionally stops until more funding happens. It is being built through private donations. Sometimes we really get rolling . A lot is happening on it right now. These buildings are basically sculptures, so there are mosaic people, wood carvers, (me, the glass person), along with rock, cement, iron workers....and usually some interns from architect schools and a few volunteers. @Fire Ant Farm It is a learning and art center on the property of Jim Hubbell, artist/builder.

About that cougar.....A day or so after my new guardian dog chased it up the mountain, people about 5 miles away in that direction started having trouble with a cat. It hurt a horse and killed some chickens, goats and a few lambs. After about two weeks, somebody was able to shoot her as she went over a fence with a lamb in her mouth. It was a healthy, 150 pound non-nursing female. IF it was the same cat that I was having trouble with, it was also killing deer, so really no reason to be going after livestock other than it became habit. It's too bad when they get like that and I hope it was the same one and that there's not another one acting that way. I wouldn't necessarily know because this dog is definitely keeping the predators backed off. Maybe a bit too backed off....
Hey, TJ
Been a while.
I'm sure you've said, and I missed or forget it, but what breed / breeds is your dog?

and these on the bators
lau.gif

That's exactly what is on all my coop doors and most nest boxes.
You can get packs of 8 or 12 locks all keyed the same and if you buy them at the same time, you can find more packages in the same box with the same key code on the pack.
For the time being, I leave the key in most of the locks if I open them daily because I don't have any human predators.

O,we cought the coon last night
THE coon?
You, for some reason, think there is only one?

Why do people think if they see a predator and they dispatch it that their problems are over?

I see coyotes crossing my property in pairs but I know there are many more around.

When I killed this mink, I wasn't naïve enough to think that was the only one.

During warmer weather, I could trap a new coon every night if I wanted to.

wow. Nice, I have been working on one that is not as neat or big. I am using a lot of scrounged and scrap wood. Mine is a small non person access 8x8 though the base is 8x10 and will be covered. I am going to make a run that I can move back and forth from the West to the south and latch to the coop. The back will hinge open for poop board cleaning, the side will hinge for total sweep, I plan a couple of windows, several best boxes that can be accessed from the outside and a covered corner where I can put foot and water in without entering the coop or run. The biggest problem will be if I need a bird when it is not on the roost, but that is not that common.
I hope you got further than me.
One of my buildings is like that but narrower and longer with a steeper roof. The lower half of the roof is also the door.

Here's a temporary growout with the top of both sides also serving as doors.

it stays on about 3 to 4 seconds and shuts off for a minute or two, it varies to how good the bator is, the really good insulated bators hardly cycle.
It depends on the room temperature.

thanks for the input. This is something I might monitor for a period of time. My light shuts off at .5 over and start at .5 under in Fahrenheit. From my set temp, the windows of time are small, think I need s few stop watches. I guess I'm just trying to find something to do while I stare at the Tank.
Not bad. I wonder if the point at which the controller turns on is the internal egg temperature or higher than that.
I need one of those water wigglers to test it.

I hope you are alright

Here's a building update for you

Getting the roof shapes done!
That's awesome. Looks like a fun project.

looks like I have one moltted Cochin bantam chick and two parttridge or gold laced
Unless you plan on selling them right away, it probably doesn't matter. It will be clear once they're adults. And if they are a barnyard mix, it really doesn't matter.

AC vent is closed to this room so it stays about 80 in here

And the door stays closed, except when it's open
lol.png
Mine are in the cellar and it's way too cool down there for good incubation. I need to move it into a smaller room down there and run a gas heater in the room.

My friend.... You may have developed
Asthma a big part of the reason I just spent five nights awake..... Finally today the steroids did a good job opening up.... Now I just need to try and maintain them..... Hope this resolved Soon for you..... Breathing problems are about the worst.....
Breathing and back problems.

You remind me of an ornery old customer of mine who says their fridge "Runs too much"
Tell them to move it into a colder room.

Day,14 now for broody muscovy.she has ten eggs left all alive so far.takes 35 days witch is crazy that it takes longer than geese.but I'm so excited.this will be her first babys

That's all good. My birds aren't pets and each is a potential breeder. I just don't recommend breeding any bird that needs help hatching.
...
Maybe it's time I start removing the keys from my locks.
...
Have you had a soil test done?
I do at least every other year. This year's was disturbing. Everything was good except the phosphorus is off the charts excessive. Mostly due to the bed I tested serving double duty as a chicken pen. I'm going to have to figure out how to deal with it.

" how she dare not to respond me, EXACTLY when I need her to respond? "
Yes, how inconsiderate.

Good morning to all. Hope all have a good day.

I wish people wouldn't do that, just fry up the double yolkers and enjoy them.
Twins in birds is a bad idea.
