Morning Skittles

babies

They'll move themselves off the floor in their own good time. I try not to give myself any more work than necessary.

A pair of coyotes took one of my roosters and killed a chick in the middle of the afternoon last year. He gave himself up while all the hens ran for cover. They were all safe. I knew something was wrong when the mother of the chicks ran past the house like she was shot out of a cannon headed for the road. Chickens never venture this far from the coops.

Have you been getting rain? Rain was predicted here for Monday night through Thursday night. We got about 20 raindrops Tuesday afternoon. That's it so far.

IMHO, when you actually see worms in feces, they likely have a heavy load.
Raw ACV has vitamins, minerals, enzymes and has mild antiseptic qualities but won't treat worms.
DE works as a desiccant of soft bodied creatures. I don't know how that would work in the moist environment of the digestive tract. There are few scientific studies on its use and any that show benefits suggest there is marginal effectiveness.
When there is a heavy load, it's time to bring out the big guns.
Your first course of action would be to have a fecal sample read to determine both the types of worms present but also how heavy the load is. Then you'll know the most effective anthelmintic to use.
x2 At least, that's the way it is with dogs, with which I've had much more experience. I imagine the same is true for chickens.

Have you ever seen worms other than round worms in chickens' stools? Again, I've more experience with dogs, but I don't recall ever seeing anything but roundworms. even in cases where hook, whip, and/or tape worms were present

I've never seen worms in chicken stool. Most of the evidence is microscopic in the form of eggs.

I quit cold turkey about a year and a half ago. I'm doing green or white tea now.
Also, beer isn't just for breakfast any more.
I go thru a couple of milk jugs full of green tea / week. What are they, half gallon or gallon; whichever. Of course, that's in addition to at least 1 cup of black coffee / day...gotta have my coffee...makes the whole day better.

I've only used wormer on about 4 birds in my life.
About once a year, I use a 2 stage herbal wormer. http://www.fiascofarm.com/herbs/mollysherbals.php/categories/herbal-wormer
The good thing is there is no egg or meat withdrawal.
It can't be used with pregnant animals though because it contains wormwood.
The next time I use it, probably next month, I'm going to get a fecal sample read before and after.
Please let us know what you find.
We have been getting great rain. It has been a steady rain but not too hard for several hours followed by several hours of grey but dry. This has been the cycle since Sunday night. With temperatures in the fifties and sixties and more of the rain at night it has been nice.
Did you see my question for you about what you use to band your birds from chicks to adult (LF)?

Good morning everyone!
