did your hens lay them or did you order hatching eggspurchased ??
The shotgun worked much better than the crappy telescoping lopper. I'll try to post the video. It isn't in my possession yet. My son works 2 jobs.
The problem with the shotgun was that I used 000 buckshot because that's all I had - intended for the neighbor's malamute/husky crosses. A lighter load would have been better at severing the branches.
Can't remember but I'm sure it was something pretty snarky. Don't worry about it - or your eggs.why u qouted
I have lived in the city off and on during my life. I always thought it would be cool to have an old house like this in the country. I almost got it. Not the country but very rural/urban.Congrats CH!
HUGE and unique, I always thought it would be cool to have an old huge Victorian in the middle of the mnts somewhere lol
Chickencanoe, she has been sitting for 3 days now so last night I took 4 of the eggs out of the incubator and put them under her. She has stayed on them all day. this is a picture of her today sitting on the eggs. I haven't seen her get off all day. What I'm hoping to do if she takes to them. I'll take what hatches from the incubator and put them under her.
There's no way to get an appraisal. There are no comparables in the area. The only homes of the same era around here are log cabins. The only similar homes are 30 miles away in the city and a completely different demographic....

You're welcomeTypical male! Get into trouble, and run!
A straw in the incubator is the way to go!

I hate dogs sometimes
I'm trying to incubate runner ducks and am having no luck. i have some eggs that have air sacs that are too small for the age of the eggs and was wondering if any people who are successful at correcting this problem could have a look at my post about the eggs and give me some feedback or advice. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1099126/air-sac-is-way-too-small-need-advice-please i'm pretty sure that i had my humidity too high. it's confusing on lots of the websites and reference books that i was looking at, and i think that i was using wet bulb recommendations instead of %humidity/hygrometer readings.
Hi Sally
That was an amazing post, i bookmarked it and it will probably take me a while to get thru everything!! There's a lot more information in your post than i had in the books about incubating duck eggs that i've been reading. I can already see a few things that i need to work on. I'm calibrating one of the hygrometers right now and will do the other one tomorrow, but judging by the size of the air sacs, i'm pretty sure i was wayy too humid. interesting that most people start with low humidity and then go from there, i will definitely try that for future hatches. I'm just starting out with all of this, brand new hovabator with fan and turner for the incubator and a 2nd still air for the hatcher. i'm using my own duck eggs from runner ducks that are a year old now. and a batch of local chicken eggs that i just put in on tues. i'm not confident enough yet with all of this to even think about trying shipped eggs, although there is a breed of chickens that i don't think i can get locally that i'd like to get shipped in once i can figure out how to get a successful hatch. with all of the duck eggs that i've set, they've all been fertile with really great veining.
I tried quoting your post with my reply but it said that i didn't have permission to post outside links and ate part of what i had typed. OOPs!!
Right now the humidity in the incubator seems to be 35%. Interesting about using a small container of water, instead of the troughs. right now the incubator is full and there's a turner going, only one empty slot, closest to the motor, so i'm not sure how a container of water would fit? I wonder what you think about using a dish of rice to get the humidity lower? i live in the pnw, and the weathernetwork website says the ambient humidity is 70% today.
I'll probably have more questions as i work thru some of the information that you posted.
I'm in the same situation. I'm on 2 acres, with 2 houses. One built around 1903, and the second who knows. It's kind of a Dr. Seuss house, with intentionally crooked walls. This used to be the main house for acres and acres of Orchards. The surrounding property was sold off to various developments over the years, starting in the 50's.There's no way to get an appraisal. There are no comparables in the area. The only homes of the same era around here are log cabins. The only similar homes are 30 miles away in the city and a completely different demographic.
