Glad it went well...

There was hail in North Texas (there was hail all over the place!!!!), but some of the big news that made national news was the 4.5" hail we got in the NW San Antonio area. Currently being cited as the costliest hail storm in Texas history - est. $1.36 billion.

There was a BMW dealership that had to total all of their cars - the hail broke all the windshields, and then the deluge of rain poured inside. No possibility for recovery. You can't get a rental car for love nor money around here. I was very, very lucky not to have had car or house damage, and only golf ball sized stuff at my house.

Well, I had a really productive day. Didn't get everything done, but all the coops are cleaned out and refreshed, which took most of the day (I use deep litter, but I mixed, turned, and then added a bunch more pine shavings and replaced hen house bedding). I also removed all the deep litter bedding from the old growout coop that Apoc had been in, in preparation to move the February hatch boys in there ASAP (they are being a real pain to the pullets, just started yesterday, gotta get them separated STAT). Moved all the remaining citrus trees to their new location and fertilized them all (foliar drench with liquid seaweed/molasses). That and the routine chicken chores took up the whole rest of the day. More to do next week...

Astoundingly, I caught up here, then went to take a hot bath, and then when I came back, there were only SEVEN new posts! Boy, this thread is SLOW tonight. (Or is everyone outside admiring Phil's bonfire?)

The thunder storm here would have put out that fire. No hail thankfully. I saw pics of cars with windshields blown out from the storm you are talking about. Can't even imagine the horror of that.

The fly trap which is probably now full of water was working great even catching that pesky little cattle fly.

Hey friends! I shared a pic of a few weeks ago of a duck with no eyes that I HAD to bring home from TSC. Wasn't really expecting it to even live, but it is 3 weeks old now! It is best friends with my dog, and enjoys lounging on the dog bed with her, or following her around the house! So cute!

I have a metal roof, and it was pretty scary and VERy loud - and the hail wasn't even so bad compared to other folks. It completely freaked the EHAL chicks out (indoors, under said metal roof). All chickens were fine - I'm really glad I used super tough roofing for their coops.

Glad to hear about the fly trap - I have some liver in the fridge, and since some critter spilled one of them last night (pouring out the contents), I'll get to try it sooner than I expected...

If you are willing, having it as a house duck may end up being a good life for it...

I was wondering how it went. Nice. Probably uses the dog for sight.
