Note to self: while open- sided duck brooders make for fantastically tame ducks, they WILL splatter mud, poop, and water on everything within a five foot radius. :sick :love

That is why I never liked birds in the first place. It is amazing that I have chickens, but I don't put them in open sided cages in my house!

Well I'm back sun burn and all. Aloe is one of my best friends today. MC I missed you. @Sally Sunshine It is so good to have you back hope you are having a good day.
Good morning everyone!!!!

Good Morning!
Don't let oyur sunburn dry out if you can help it, how's the baby cow??

I am putting cold water and aloe on it every couple of hours and that is helping, I went to sleep last night with 2 wet bath towels wrapped around my arms and it feels ok this morning. He is doing great I need to get updated pictures.

I am new to byc. I am starting to incubate tonight. Bantams and americaunas. I read that using rocks in the water chamber helped hold the temperature better. Has anyone heard that?
@coon chicks WELCOME TO BYC and the thread!!! Yes heat sinks and wrapping the bator can help! see this post for more help on incubation and the link after it! Any questions just ask!

You calibrated thermo hygros and know not to rely on the one that came with the bator?

AGAIN...You have more than one thermo hygro and they had been calibrated?

You know that you should not use the vent holes to adjust humidity?

NEVER USE VENT holes as a means to Control HUMIDITY especially during HATCH DAYS!

You realize humidity is NOT a set number just a tool to get the correct weight loss in the egg?

You understand the majority of people for standard hatching eggs run the first 7 days 25-30% humidity (possibly 35%for shipped eggs) and adjusted from there for weight loss?

You understand that you can in fact candle every two days after day 7 to just keep a closer eye on weight loss so you dont need to make major changes later on?

Try to add water above in containers and not in the troughs until lockdown?

AGAIN....You understand humidity is NOT a set number, most of us begin incubation 25-35% the first week and then adjust as needed per air cell growth/weight loss.
