@JandTRanch there is nothing to processing and once you get the hang of it, it'll go fast. You don't need anything fancy or expensive to get started either. And at the rate the world is going, might be a good idea to know how to get your own food.

No change in the egg with the loose air cell. The live chick is hanging out. Still chirping but still looks like there are veins so I don't think it's ready yet. Today is day 23

@sallysunshine it looks like none of them are more than a cooked egg with the yolk being near the top, and to one side.
The last one has something floating around. Here is where the last one came from.

I agree!! I've been reading up on all the tips and info here on byc including Sally's processing support thread. Lots of good stuff in there. Before deciding to stay at home to raise my kids full time, I was a vet tech for many years so Im not squeamish. And I really love animals. But I also have a practical side and see the benefits of raising our own sources of meat. Believe it or not, I'm having to convince my husband to get on board!! He's a hunter but when it comes to animals he cares for on a daily, it's a whole different deal.

Okay after a twelve hour deep sleep...I awaken and skinmed through the thread....FIRE I do eat deer steak....I'm not a huge fan of Beef though eat a burger now and then and a few bites of steak...absolutely love beef liver though. Best steak I ever ate was a bear steak....I've had elk and was gamey probably the butchers fault....I take a week to completely process a deer. Never leave a bit of white on the meat. Mix the burger with bacon if I'm going to eat it as a burger one third bacon two thirds venison. Love bison meat...love moose meat....Rabbit is best.

Moose and Elk are the absolute best 2 meats a person could eat, IMHO. Oh and chicken! Chicken is good too!! Hahahahaha

In fact, I won't kill a steer when we have Elk in the freezer. The beef will set and elk is what gets ate.

Just my thoughts, but if you hatch much, processing is almost a necessity with the abundance of roosters no one wants.

Chickens aren't bad, but turkey can be a lot of work. I did 5 the weekend before Thanksgiving (go figure). Dressed out between 15-17#. Heavy, a lot to handle, lots of plucking. It was cold, so three a day was my limit. If I had started earlier, maybe could have done six.

It's nice using my excess for soup all winter. I swear I could set my crock pot on low and just toss stuff in as I take some out and eat a different soup each meal. Might have to consider that. Continuous soup pot. Efficient, good, easy. Hmmm

That is fact. We crock pot or slow smoke lots of 16 week old Roos. In fact, we crockpotted 2 Friday night. Tender fall off the bone with some taters and veggies.
