INCUBATING w/FRIENDS! w/Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs No problem!

Just for the record, there is only strong black coffee. That's it. No fufu stuff or cream or sugar. Just thought I'd let y'all know that. LOL

I drink creamer that is coffee flavored.

Funny.

I put chocolate in mine....

I tried that once, but brown cows are hard to find around here

Huh. We have plenty of them. We're short on strawberry though.

Don't mean to ruin all the fun. New to incubating and hatching. I think I may need to assist one or both of the two ducks that have pipped.

I'm less worried about one. It has a large hole and is cheeping. Started to turn one way and quit making progress late last night, and no progress as of 5 hours ago, but has since started turning the other direction and making slow progress.

These were shipped eggs (wanted to put them under a broody duck). All of them had loose air cells. I have 5 duck eggs in there, but I think these 2 are the only viable ones. The one I'm worried about did have saddle shaped air cell to begin with. It did pip into one of the original dips, but I can see veined membrane between the pip point and the air cell. About 14 hrs ago was when I found they had pipped, since I had not been home I checked them both to see if they were having problems and to up the humidity level. They are late Day 32 now. When I first found it had pipped I could hear clicking inside so I left it be. Now I hear nothing, see no movement with candling and the membrane has started to dry around the hole. Know it may already be gone, but I want to give it a chance if it is not.

Biggest question after reading the assisted hatching guide, by Sally Sunshine, is can I use a different antibiotic ointment to keep the membrane moist? I don't keep bacitracin containing products around due to allergies, what I have on hand is a antimicrobal silver wound gel.

Thanks for any help and advice.

You too?! I keep it on hand (near gloves!) for the critters and the human baby.
You can use water on a cotton swab.
Is there any other way to dry the duckling besides in the bator? The temp in there has dropped several degrees and is not seeming to climb back up.

Will have to check on the chick eggs, but they have all probably quit too. Set them to hatch the same day as the ducks, which should have been Sunday.

It should be fine.

Oh ok. I definitely want to be good on this thread. So how many chickens do you have?
Uhh... I stopped counting at 30.

I think it's 40 but honestly I don't know. LOL It's a mix of ameruacanas, new hampshire and rhode island reds, ameraucana, NHR, RIR, white plymouth rock crosses, buff orpingtons, barred rocks, and white leghorns. Plus 12 turkeys. Phew! You don't realize how big and complicated your flock is until you have to spell it all out!

How many in yours?
